How do you sign your personal emails? What do you think of people who sign off with a cute or pithy phrase? A lot of my friends end with things like "Hugs, Ravena", or "All the best, Ludwig". Personally, I just finish writing my email and hit send. Do you feel an email is incomplete or impersonal if there's no signature?
At work, I leave a signature that has my name and contact info. For personal e-mails, I sign them "Love," for loved ones, and everyone else just gets my name.

I think everyone should sign their e-mails because I can't always tell from one's e-mail address who it is.

To my mom, I sign with "Hugs and Kisses," or "Your [adjective] daughter". To Mudd Dude, I'll sign something funny. No one else gets a sign-off.

I sign all e-mails with my initials. My work e-mail has a proper signature, which I use for e-mails to people outside the company.

Either "Thanks," or "Cheers," unless there's a particular reason for something else.

For anything impersonal, I use my full name [e.g., Elsa X. Redacted].

For school contacts whom I know but am with whom I'm not cozy, I use my initials [e.g., EXR or E.X.R.]. I do the same with two favorite professors, I guess as a nod to the formality our relationship deserves. They often sign off with their nicknames; I never address them by those nicknames in writing. It's a small observation of rank.

For friends and family I write all the time, I sometimes just type and send, sometimes add the initials or "Love you! - E" or the like.

When contacting friends or family who wouldn't know the address or whom I haven't written in a long time, I usually use the whole name, to jog their memories.

I'll usually go with

--Fuzzbean

or

Thanks-- / Sincerely-- / Best wishes--
Fuzzbean

My email is firstname.lastname so I figure that's enough of a clue. With people I'm really close to I'll drop to just --F

i never use think of emails as having to have letter writing protocol unless i'm writing someone a letter, such as when it's formal, business or the recipient is unfamiliar. i err on the side of politeness or respond in kind.
Otherwise, the giver and getter are right there at the top so it feels redundant.
i use to get responses from people who though the lack of "signature" was from being cut off.

i still generally don't and find extra added clutter annoying.
It's different if it's information i want or need.

I use two signatures. One is just "Cheers" and my name or else I write "WOULD YOU LIKE SOME CIALIS?"

Yeah, like ethylene, I mostly don't use anything. There was a thread about this here lately that I read with great interest and then I thought, ooh, I've been rude my whole emailing life. So I started trying to use salutations, Dear So & So, Cordially yours, or cheers, or ciao and it all became too confusing and felt artificial and weird, so, rather than let it hamper my emailing, I've gone back to using nothing.

The mister: Love you (we both sign off that way)

Mum: Love, me or Love, Deborah or Love, your favourite daughter (I'm her only daughter)

Bro#1: Love, me, or Love, Deborah, or Love, your favourite sister (I'm his only sister) or Love, Sis (he calls me Sis)

The rest of the family: Love, me or Love, Deborah

Friends: usually just my name or if it's a closer friend it might be Big Hugs, Deborah or similar

Strangers/Acquaintances: Deborah (sometimes Good Luck or whatever else may be appropriate)

Sometimes just "Joe" but I've been throwing down just my initials more often. It's like a power move, or something. At my old job I used to send along the contact info when I was emailing someone for the first time, then switched to initials or just first name.

pup, you are quite witty!

Agro, as your amanuensis, I must point out that you really shouldn't be signing anything on your own, anyway.

Weirdly, I've become far more impersonal since moving to the bay area. I used to sign things "hugs," "thanks oodles," or "kiss kiss!" and now I just use my initial L.

That kinda sucks. But I felt like that happy spazzy energy was appropriate and appreciated when I was down there and seemed overboard & weird to people up here. Too bad I changed that... I used to think it was fun.

I hate sigs, and refuse to use them. A friend with whom I exchange frequent emails, usually of the "look at this example of rampant human stupidity" variety, has a very formal sig that always seems off-putting to me. Probably appropriate for his job as a programmer/analyst, but it just comes across as frosty in an email link to a picture of a hippo pooping.
