In search of Malaysian iced coffee! I just had the tastiest beverage of my entire summer and I must learn how to make it.[More:] Kind of like Thai iced coffee, but not as sickly-hurts-your-ears sweet. Ideas? A Filipina friend I was with said it was kind like Vietnamese iced coffee, which I can find recipes for, but not exactly the same. Terima kasih!
The secret to Vietnamese iced tea is sweetened condensed milk. It comes in cans, and has the consistency of honey. Sweet and milky goodness. If that helps?

jason's_planet brought me here - I haven't been on MeCha in a LOOOOOOOOONG time!

You're asking for Kopi Ais. Essentially it is coffee with LOADS of condensed milk - pretty much what typewriter is describing. Also, the coffee beans are roasted in butter.

I don't personally drink coffee so I don't know the exact recipe, but I can try asking around.

You might enjoy these two Wiki pages, on Malaysian/Singaporean cuisine (scroll down to "Drinks" section) and coffee shops, respectively.

(Thanks to this, I now know the meaning of my favorite local Malaysian restaurant's name. It's Kopi-O-Peng — iced coffee with sugar. Now I have to get it next time!)

Aha! I knew there was some sort of sweet milky thickening thing going on, I just didn't know what it exactly was. Thanks!

Yeah, and of course I meant iced coffee not tea.

Kopi cham - coffee and tea, mixed, with milk and sugar; a taste to be acquired. Really!
Kopi kosong - plain black coffee, no milk or sugar (the “Western” version is probably the long black).
Kopi peng - iced coffee, milk and sugar.
Kopi-O - black coffee with sugar but no milk.
Kopi-o-peng - iced black coffee with sugar.
Kopi si - coffee with sugar and evaporated milk.
