23 August 2007

I walk outside for lunch today, and a bird falls to the brick terrace directly in front of me with a thwack. It must have hit an upper story window. I watch it die. It only takes a few seconds. I scoop it up and place it in the grass, feeling more than a bit sorry for the poor bugger. Lunch is bland and tasteless, and once I'm done, I get ready for my last team meeting before leaving the company in two weeks. In the conference room I sit at the large table. My manager enters the room and in front of my peers tells me that I'm not supposed to be there at this late stage of my notice. I no longer feel like contributing anything for the remainder of my term. It's been that kind of day.
I feel ya.

This morening, I waited around for one of the other managers for an hour, because I had agreed to teach her how to use powerpoint... the must user-friendly piece of software in the WORLD. She showed up late and then cancelled on me.

THANKS FOR THE FUCKING PHONE CALL. She never would have treated any other manager in such a callous way... IT professionals get 0 respect.

If I had known, I wouldn't have bothered getting my cert.

Congrats on leaving the company. That just has to be good.

I'm hoping I've recently left large corporations forever myself. We should throw a virtual party.

I'm sorry about the bird. You told of it exceedingly well and the experience feels archetypal, symbolic and poignant.

This is my second large corporation, and I hope it's the last too.

Poignant. That's the right word for how it seemed. Thanks guys.

Yeah, your manager really didn't need to do that. Why not let you attend the meeting? That just seems mean to me.

Still, newer and brighter things coming up soon, yes?

Yeah, it was just uncalled for. While I have no employment lined up, I at least have the means to take a month or so to find a new job.
