We found our place! Conveniently enough, it's the front house on the triplex property where my boyfriend's been living all along![More:]By sheer coincidence, we found out this weekend that the tenant of the front house had just bought a condo. My boyfriend and I instantly said we wanted to rent it, but didn't know how much the landlord would raise the rent (it's a beautiful house going for waaaay under the market price for a 1920s Spanish bungalow).

Well, the landlord got back to us just now and said if he was putting it on the open market, he would raise the rent by $500... but for us, he'd only raise it $150. Woo! I'm so excited. It's BEAUTIFUL: 2 bedrooms, bathroom with vintage tile work, living room with amazing fireplace, full dining room, kitchen, laundry room, reading room/den, a back deck, and a big front yard. It will be the nicest place I've ever lived in as an adult.
scody, It sounds gorgeous. Congratulations.

I hope it turns out to be mellow. I love those old LA bungalows. Any trees out front?

Yep, one very large tree in the front yard, plus nice additional landscaping. Zippy is going to have a lot of fun, bouncing around chasing after crickets and squirrels.

Grouse, congrats on your new place, too!

The vintage tile work sounds nice. I was kind of sad to see that the upgrades to my otherwise cute current apt. made right before I moved into it included replacing the original tile counter with a faux-granite look plastic countertop. But enough grousing. Congratulations!

Yep, photos will definitely be forthcoming. Excitement! I can't believe I'm finally going to have a full dining room for my grandmother's dining set! It will feel great to finally give it its due.

My boyfriend actually does some contracting work, specializing in tile -- and funnily enough, he got called on to a job the other week to do exactly what happened to your place: replacing really gorgeous vintage tile (in both the kitchen and the bathroom) with that terrible faux-granite stuff. He said it felt pretty weird, destroying classic materials and handiwork for a cheap knockoff of a trend that's already past its prime.

Wow, vintage Spanish bungalow! How wonderful, plus the move will be so much easier cause you can just carry it across the yard! And, without a huge raise in rent! Your karma is good! Congrats.
