I Need a Favour, Por Favor [More:]
Every so often I get a question or twelve about immigrating to Canada. While I have no problem helping out people, it gets tiresome having to type it out each and every time. The light bulb finally went off and I have written a post about it.

So, please read this to make sure it's readable and makes sense. All criticism (good or bad) and rewrites welcome!

I'm going to link to it from my Metafilter page (I get questions from there as well as my blog).
It's readable and makes sense.

I don't know much about the subject matter, but I do seem to remember hearing that Canada is very, very strict about bringing in "obscene materials" (i.e., porn). If I'm correct, might want to make a note of that in your paragraph about not lying to officials.

Makes sense to me. Does Canada need librarians? ;)

Hey, I think I have barely enough points, as a "skilled worker".

It's just very specific types of porn. Child stuff of course and materials deemed to be obscene. Hard core gay and lesbian stuff makes press for tweeking the customs agents sensibilities.

You will also have to have it inspected within a certain number of days (I don't remember how many). If I remember correctly, this also cost money.

In BC you are supposed to get your vehicle inspected within 60 days. To do so you take it to any licensed mechanic and they do a check of a hundred or so items. It costs somewhere around 130-150 dollars. Of which the government forms fees are ~70. You'll be required to fix any items found unsafe. You can do it yourself or get the mechanic to do it. If you do it yourself you may have to pay for a second inspection.

You are also required to surrender your license within 60 days and get a BC license. This is fairly straight forward, you don't even have to write a test though they will check your vision. The only exception to these requirements are if you are claiming student status.

Thanks for the feedback, folks!

Mitheral - here's my adjusted paragraph including a couple details I had forgotten about:

You will also have to surrender your driver's licence and get a BC licence within 60 days. As long as you have proof that you have been driving for seven years, you will not have to take another driver's test. They will test your vision. I had a Texas driver's licence but it was only six years old. I had to get confirmation from California (I never got a Washington state licence - shhhhh!) to show that I had been driving longer.

Thanks!
