Float or Gloat? Gordon Brown Blames Climate Change. What do you think?
I'm a little south of Brum, myself, and it's been spitting a little. Nothing too bad, though. I'm just glad I don't live in one of the places that has no water...
Here in Texas, we've had the rainiest July in recorded history, and the 2nd coldest. So yeah, I do think climate change is leading to more extreme weather, globally.
Everything gets blamed on climate change these days. I've seen some ridiculous car adverts of TV recently where everything is green and happy and voiced by a lovely soft-voiced person. Emissions are being cut, it's a great car because it hurts the climate much less, so you can feel good about forking out thousands of pounds on the vehicle. Then, right at the very last minute, they cut to a bloody 4×4!
As to your question: well, I'm sure there's been flooding before over history. Lots of it. There's probably thousands of different things to blame. As you've noted before, the UK is a small country and there's only so much space to build on. So we've built all over flood plains. Which is a stupid thing to do, but there you go.
Record-breaking temperatures here in Greece, southern Europe, and the Balkans, as well as various spots in the U.S. and Canada, with deluges in Britain and Germany. Drought in Kenya and the Phillipines, fatal flash flooding in China and Sudan... Droughts and floods in the U.S... It just seems strange that all this extreme weather phenomena is happening in different places at the same time. Maybe it isn't global warming, but it seems unlikely that these are all just total coincidences.
I just checked: it's 103F in the shade here right now, 10 degrees cooler than it was yesterday. my eyes have been burning and aching for weeks... I think it's because they are being baked.
