999 Biblical Storm in UK. Flooded in at work. Everyone is shitting themselves. Glad I can swim.
The rain's getting harder here - I was thinking the forecast was exaggerated, as it'd been raining steadily but not that hard, but it's not letting up... I don't have to go out, thankfully, but am fearing for my basement office...
Dang. I really, really wish we could share. Go ahead and send me a bunch of it... enough to drench our poor parched trees (what's left of 'em after all the fires), cool me off, and keep the waves from your door.
My brother went through this a few weeks ago, and it was a nightmare. He couldn't get home, he couldn't get to work, he had friends that lost everything. Luckily he was OK.
Of course, (and I'm not griping at you here - just griping at the london-centric media), because this happened in unfamiliar cities like Sheffield and Hull nobody really noticed it. I'm sort of hoping that a few thousand people do get flooded out within distance of the M25 so I can nod smugly at the disproportionate media response and reflect back some of the things people said.
e.g. Television's response on hearing about the flooding in Hull: "Everybody's been evacuated from Hull. Not because of the flooding. No - they were evacuated because it's a shit hole."
