Those are awesome, as is stumptuous. My progress is slow due to my own inertia. In trying to lose weight, I'm not eating enough so am lacking energy to work out properly. Even though I know I need more fuel, and I'm eating all the right things, it's so hard to break out of that "Food = Fat" mindset.
With the biking and dumbbells, I don't get winded as much, but have only worked up to about 12 pounds on my highest weight (biceps and calf raises) and 8 pounds on my lowest (triceps). I'd been going slowly because I've pulled tendons & ligaments many times in the past and they take months to heal, which is really discouraging.
EJ I hear you on the food = fat hangup - I had that too. As soon as I started eating per the calc on the stumptuous site (about 1100 cals/day) I felt much better. That was last week.
The kettlebell stuff makes a lot of sense - we don't use one muscle at a time when we move - we use a bunch of them. So why not train that way? Today I basically focused on the 'clean'. I search YouTube for some video, b/c the stills don't really convey what's going on, and this was the best one I found. I like the instructor guy - he show the wrong way and the right way, and explains why.
I got the 8kg (~17 lbs) yellow vinyl kettlebell. It's cute!
Oh, and I bet jason's_planet has some good workout tips!
*blushes*
You are too kind. But I think you're going to become the expert on this one. I have exactly one kettlebell session to my name!
Let's see . . . what did said session teach me? That you might want to take a class on kettlebell technique -- with a good, experienced instructor -- and have the instructor help you with form. When I would clean the kettlebell to my chest, I kept leaning over to one side, and I had no idea that I was doing this. The instructor would correct my form and I kept wondering how the hell I could keep making that mistake. I felt as if I were standing upright. But I wasn't. I hadn't -- and still haven't -- developed the kind of bodily-kinesthenic awareness that would allow me to spot those kinds of flaws.
Have fun with your workouts! Kettlebells are teh awesome!
