British District Maps Ask MeCha:

I can't find any decent maps of counties in the UK. All I can find are the ones on the police website or oneslike this.

Am I not searching properly, or do these maps not exist (as I fear)?

Have a look here. I did a Google search for 'uk counties map' and this was the first hit.

Interestingly, it doesn't show London, but instead shows, Middlesex, Surrey, Kent and Essex, the corners of which all now form Greater London.

Here's a map of the historic counties of Britain.

Today, there are a number of different definitions of the counties, for various legislative and 'ceremonial' purposes. This Wikipedia article on the counties of England is a good place to start if you want to find out more. In particular you'll find maps of the Metropolitan and non-metropolitan counties, and the ceremonial counties, which I believe are the two definitions that are officially most relevant today.
