Oink? Anyone have any ideas why oink.me.uk has been down for a while? I'd hate to lose that place!
Buh-bye, piggies...

I've got 6 invites, in case anybody wants one, send me an email.

I will take an invite to Oink. I promise to use it this time, too. E-mail's in profile.

signal, your email isn't in your profile. I'd like an invite, please and thank you.

You guys might want to ask ico or arse_hat to delete your offers of invites...I think Oink is pretty hard-assed about trading, posting offers, etc.

To quote indietorrents: 2007-06-30 - Yes, OPP is NOT DOWN. They're having DNS problems. Create a post about it an you are banned.

If anyone wants their comment deleted just say so.

I don't know what it is so what am I possibly asking to be invited to?
posted by miss lynnster 01 July | 15:50
Oink's working just fine, they are not down. You can add their addresses to the hosts file during the DNS outage if you want to use the site in the interim.

I don't know what it is either. Why is it that asking to be invited to it (on an unrelated website) risks a pre-emptive ban? Whatever it is, I object. It apparently is the Oink that dare not speak its name. Weird.

Too late for an Oink-invite?

quoteth the oink:
The sale of invites to this site is strictly forbidden and results in both the inviter and invitee losing their accounts. If you come across an auction from someone claiming to have permission to sell invitations to this site, it's a lie. Do not believe positive feedback ratings; if you buy an invite, we will know about it and you will lose your account.

The site has something to do with torrents and considers itself very private.

It's a private invite-only bittorrent tracker that focuses on music, software, and ebooks.

These sites typically ban public invite-whoring, i.e. posting on a forum asking or offering invites. The logic is that you're only supposed to invite people that you know and trust, not people that might randomly read your message and reply asking for one or people that you are not sure know how to use a private bittorrent ratio site (e.g. that they will not get themselves banned.)

I personally think Oink is a great site, but if you've never used a private ratio tracker you're in for a world of hurt as it can be difficult at first because the ratio of seeders to leechers is massively out of balance, which means it is very easy to download and somewhat difficult to upload.

Oh and as to why you'd be banned at indietorrents for making a post about Oink, that's probably because they're tired of deleting the deluge of off-topic posts about another site.
