I've got two ideas. →[More:] I abandoned the Absurdist awhile back out of..exhaustion for lack of a better word, but now I'm getting the urge to two-step with the muse again. I have two concepts that have been simmering in my brainpan for a while.

1)Jonmc Defends The Indefensible: I take a critically or cognoscenti despised acts (Creed, Hanson, The Doobie Brothers, Elton John, the Archies, etc) and write about what's good about them. (They would also have to be a band that I sincerely liked, irony is not my long suit).

2)24 Hours in jonmc's iPod: I sit on the porch with my iPod on shuffle describing my immediate impressions of every song that comes up in one big speed rap.. This is inspired by all those '24 hours watching MTV' things that I know I can do better than the authors. And anyone who's ever hung out on the porch with me knows I can keep a good line of DJ style patter going. (Warning: this scenario may require some poor soul taking down dictation.

Which would you rather read, dear readers?

Hmm, I like both of your ideas. I like a lot of Elton John stuff, so I wouldn't need much convincing. :) My friend loves Funeral for a Friend, It's OK to me, but I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to the piano, or any instrument for that matter. Is this song particularly good? Is it a complicated piece to preform? I have no idea.

I like it when people point out what is good or bad about something. I'm not a very good critic.

Write about Elton John!

I used to own everything he put out up till about 1977 or so. He's still an influence on my piano playing, actually.

And I had a crush on him back then, too. Instead of Donny Osmond, I might add.

Jon, I'd love to hear what you write about the Osmonds. About how "Crazy Horses" was a huge influence on the Ramones.

Or some shit like that ;)

I think we all need some Defending the Indefensible from time to time. But then, I never considered jonmc to be very focused on "what's cool" in his musical advisories... But better that theme than the Random Shuffle; I have grown weary of randomness as a theme.

I didn't realize the Doobie Brothers were indefensible. After all, Rerun thought they were totally worth bootlegging.

But you'll never sell me on Creed. Seriously. Arms Wide Open is a poorly-selling Hallmark card set to the music of an 8th grade band recital. Just knowing it exists in the world creates a scabby little black spot on my soul.

Lemme clarify... I'd like to read what you write about something (not necessarily 100% musically focused) new to you. I dig the riffing eloquent jonmc. You're like a syllable chef when you think on your feet.
