Today's lost verb. Why is the past tense of "will go" 'went'? Went is the past tense of the lost verb, 'wend', today surviving only in the archaic phrase 'wend your way'. Please pour a 40 on the curb for "wend".
This will not wend ell.
Gone with the Wend.

Ahem. It's not the past tense of "will go," it's the past tense of "go." You know, since we're being grammar snobby.

Ahem, I am the past tense of some cheap white wine and a smooth line of beatnik patter sometime right around the new year 1975. I wended out of my moms's belly in Beth Israel hospital on 14th street and I was yellow, as the tale is told.

I feel like the Wino and I might be pretty much exactly the same age.

Suggested theme song: George Thorogood's "Back to Wentzville"
(I'd always thought the song title was a pun, but Wentzville's a real place; in fact, Chuck Berry was born there.)
