Songs from one of my favorite animated movies, 1980's Animalympics [YouTube inside...][More:]

If you haven't seen it, you should try to track it down. I watched it last weekend, and the comedy still holds up. It's voiced by the likes of Gilda Radner, Harry Shearer, and Billy Crystal (mostly doing impressions of celebs from the 70s), animated by, among others, Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles), and the music, by Graham Gouldman, is beautifully poignant.

Love's Not For Me

Away From It All

Down In the Water

Born To Lose

With You I Can Run Forever

Now That We've Made It
I haven't thought of this in years. Good find. Shame I can't watch at work.

Whoa, I didn't realize that "Born To Lose" clip was dubbed into German! The turkey sports announcer is supposed to talk like Howard Cosell, but in this clip he sounds more like General Burkhalter from Hogan's Heroes.

i use to love this and all those nelvana animations.
Has anyone seen Rock and Rule with Lou Reed, Cheap Trick and Debbie Harry? How many times might i have mentioned this already?

Rock and Rule was a highly-anticipated movie event in my household (at least by my older brother and me). When I finally got to see it, I remember being slightly disappointed by it. I was probably just put off a little by the music, to be honest. At the time, my world revolved around Pink Floyd and nothing but Pink Floyd, so Cheap Trick and Blondie, much as I love 'em now, just weren't gonna cut it.

I'm a little peculiar about animated movies: if at any point I feel like the animators are doing the actor rather than the actor doing the voice, I get fed up and want to leave. That's not a good explanation. What I mean is, they're characters, so I should take away Simba or whatever, not "Oh, the Matthew Broderick character", from that fascist Lion King movie. As long as I think the donkey's a funny talking donkey and not Eddie Murphy, I can watch Shrek.

What I'm saying is, I hate, hate, hate the way voice actors in cartoon movies are billed, I find that actors' identities intrude more and more on animated characters, and it annoys me to talk to people who say, Mike Myers, oh he was great in Shrek. No, Shrek was great in Shrek (he coulda been played by anyone just as well, because he's a cartoon).

I'm the odd man out, hating on voice actors. Not only do they make far too much for not appearing in these movies, they rob upcoming actors of one of the dwindling opportunities they have to break into the business.

Hardly matters, though. I'm not part of the public Hollywood's after.

I think I've got a thing for animated movies about (or heavily featuring) popular music. Besides Rock and Rule, there's American Pop, Heavy Metal, Wave Twisters, that Daft Punk movie... what am I forgetting?

They did the vocals not the voices.
Omar was Cheap trick.
Mok the epic rocker was Lou and Iggy.
Debbie was the girl hero, of course.
i still remember playing her songover and over.
You can't find copies.

Good lord, I'd forgotten about that Animalympics film. All I seem to be able to remember about it now was a scene with a sexy looking panther woman whose boobs jiggled about as she ran towards the camera.

It's been almost 3 years since I wrote this thing about Voices in Animation... And I had completely forgotten "Animalympics" or else I'd have mentioned it...
