Dude, don't be posting stuff this cool when I've got work to do. (Seriously, that's awesome.)

Alas, Metalbaby is no more.

There is no part of that description that I don't like. Thanks, hellbient!

Of course I was thinking of you, box...

This one is outstanding both for the artwork AND the music.

So one of y'all recommend me a good sampler or compilation of dub reggae, esp. if it sounds like that one I linked to. I always like this kind of music when I hear it, and I know nada about it.

You want instrumental stuff?
posted by Hellbient 14 June | 11:57
Mostly instrumental, yeah...

Most dub reggae compilations seem to be limited to a particular producer, or to a particular label. That said:

Lee Perry - Arkology
Coxsone Dodd - Studio One Dub
King Tubby - At the Controls, Dub Gone Crazy

More, maybe, as I think of it.

Cool, thanks box!

Blood and Fire records has some great samplers. Highly recommended.

Thanks Otis! The two "Dubwise" comps look great- and cheap, too!

Also, there are about a million cheap, no-frills 3-CD Trojan box sets. I can't say I've looked closely at the dub ones, but they seem to be pretty decent.

Ooh, those do look cool. (The "X-rated" and "ganja" sets sound pretty funny...)

I have all of the Trojan dub sets, they're good. If memory serves, Vol. 1 and the Rarities are faves. Keep in mind that most of those Trojan sets aren't dub. Arkology is probably the most important dub release. And it's soo freaking good (although not all instrumentals). Just getting that will school you so much, mainly because the guy was just everywhere for the most important period. The Blood & Fire Dubwise stuff is real good too.

Also, I highly, highly recommend Alpha & Omega's Sound System Dub. It's sort of a "best of" for them. It also reminds me of the page you linked to. Here's a sample. I have a ton more recommendations, but I'll leave it at that for now...

Likewise w/the ton of recommendations thing.

We found an apartment! Yay! || I'm tired of people asking me who is going to win the next Presidential election
