I'm kind of surprised at the high proportion of The Final Cut in this thread. What's up with that?
posted by pieisexactlythree 05 June | 18:36
Because it's their best album?
posted by dg 05 June | 18:48
Possibly. It's usually overlooked in favor of the "glory years" (Meddle - The Wall).
posted by pieisexactlythree 05 June | 19:33
The Final Cut has some unforgettably poignant moments that make me teary-eyed every time I listen to them, but I'll still take the "glory years" over it. I'm very glad they finally put When the Tygers Broke Free on the TFC, though . . .

Yeah, Southampton Dock gets me every time and never loses its impact no matter how many times I hear it. It has a somewhat topical aspect to it as well and perhaps always will, because we will most likely be forever sending our best and brightest off to be slaughtered in far-away places. Two Suns in the Sunset gives me shivers and I don't know why.

*in quite desperation, knuckles white up on the slippery rail, bravely waves the boys goodbye again*
