My Phil Spector Story For a few years when I was a teenager, my family had Laker season tickets.[More:] They were not that great. . in the corner about halfway up. The only time they came in handy was that I got to use them for a Stones concert, and they were directly to the side of the stage and pretty close. .but I digress.

In the row in front of us, was this little guy who always came with an entorage. He would inevitably show up after the games started, and regardless of how the game was going, leave before it was over, again with his group. Inevitably, the big black guy in his entourage would bring him a hot dog, out of which he would eat only the frank (this was way before people were afraid of carbs).

We always knew he was some sort of high roller. Once, he had left his leather jacket behind, and we took it home (pockets were empty) and returned it to him next game, saying we knew it was his and didn't want it to get lost. He seemed neither grateful nor dismayed by this neighborly gesture.

All we ever heard him say was "Go Wilt!"

My sister and I had no idea who we was until the following year. We no longer had the season tickets, but we were watching Easy Rider and when Spector showed up as the coke buyer, we exclaimed, "that's the guy at the Forum!" and had to wait till the credits to realize it was Spector.

(One thing about living in LA. It's almost impossible to steer totally clear of celebs.)
I used to order hot dogs and eat only the frank when I was a kid, now that I think of it.

When I lived in Santa Barbara I had the same problem of running into famous people; I guess they all go there for the weekend or something. I found it disconcerting; I always wanted to holler, "get back in the tv where you belong!!"

Was his hair crazy back then? Was this when he threatened John Lennon with a gun in the recording studio?
