23 April 2007

I have such a crush [More:]on the guy behind the counter at the coffeeshop I'm sitting in right now. It's my first real crush in years, whee!

He's not only jaw-droppingly good looking in a boyish way that drives me crazy, he's so incredibly friendly and charming to absolutely everyone -- not a hint of attitude or artificiality. He could carry on a conversation with anyone about anything and make it interesting. Sigh.

Funny thing about crushes -- for me, at least, the people I get crushes on seem to embody qualities that I find lacking in myself (in this case excellent social skills). Do all crushes contain a hint of envy . . . ?
God yes. In my experience, anyway.

I usually get crushes on people who I think would really fuck me up/over in the long term, so no, not all crushes involve envy.

Ok, I was nodding in agreement up to a point, there...

It would seem natural to have a crush on someone who "embod[ies] qualities that [you] find lacking in [your]self". One aspect of a good relationship is that the partners complement or "finish" each other.

funny thing about crushes on guys...

the guy almost always would be open to getting coffee (or a drink or dinner, if they work in a coffee shop) with just about anyone with the confidence to walk up and ask him out for coffee (or a drink or dinner.) especially nice guys. most of them spend their time wondering how on earth they're supposed to know if someone is attracted to them.

just sayin'... next time you're at the coffee shop...

LOL @ BP!

Envy is definitely a factor in my crushes.

That and the potential for disaster. I'm with cmonkey on this one all the way.

No, never for me. Admiration, not envy.

Bad, bad crush for about a year here for a petite, athletic, vivacious, friendly, funny, gregarious, lovely, smart, lively, mouth-wateringly-hands-tremblingly sexy little brunette where I work. But...there's always a "but" -- I 'spect she plays for the other team, so that'll stay forever in the idea stage. I tried sneaking her a Valentine back on the day, but I think she's all wrapped up in her running partner -- another (rather good-looking her own self) person at this firm.

In that case, judging by my usual crushes, I don't have enough "self centered jerk" in my personality.
