I want to do this! Where does one obtain little people?

In those well stocked shops that sell tiny trains and model cars and stuff.

This reminds me of something I saw ages ago, a St Martin student (if I recall correctly) did some elobrate scenes in "hidden" spaces, such as often overlooked areas like cracks between bricks, corners at the ends of stairs and stuff.. Ring a bell for anyone else?
