1: If you hold down the Option key when dropping the AirPort status menu, it lists available networks in order of signal strength, rather than the usual alphabetical sort.

2: CoconutWiFi is a freeware app that lists wireless networks and, essentially, which are unencrypted and open.

Nice.

thanks TheDonF, this is really great. make this 2 really useful apps mecha has provided for my mac this week, the other being the iTunes concert calendar. good stuff.

Ha ha - the concert one is great but depressing - there are far too many gigs in London that I'd love to go to. What I need is a place in London and a lottery win - then I'd be sorted :)
