Radio b – Your Cover Is Blown All covers, all the time. I tried to avoid the usual suspects, but there were a couple I just couldn’t leave out. Some will be instantly recognizable, others… less so. Commencing at 12:30 AM PDT, give or take.
Just got home from work. This has been a long week for me, as we've got someone out at work & there's been a lot of slack to take up. I think tonight was my last shift on OT. I certainly hope so.
On any other night you might be able to talk me into IRC, but right now I just wanna spin some tunes and unwind a bit. Maybe next time.
Tonight's broadcast is brought to you by arrested adolesence and Czech beer, with additional support by the the tireless distillers of the great state of Kentucky. Long may they wave.
The Ramones – I Don’t Wanna Grow Up (Yom Waits)
The Dickies – The Banana Splits Theme Song
Patti Smith – My Generation (The Who)
The Jam – And Your Bird Can Sing (The Beatles)
Cheap Trick – Magical Mystery Tour (The Beatles)
Steve Cropper – With A Little Help From My Friends (The Beatles)
Flying Burrito Brothers – Do Right Woman (Aretha did it, but I don’t know if she was first)
Jane’s Addiction – Sympathy for the Devil (Rolling Stones)
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – All Tomorrow’s Parties (Velvet Underground)
The Feelies – Paint It Black (Rolling Stones)
It's sort of a stretch to call "Hey Joe" a cover, since seemingly everybody who ever made a record in the sixties took a stab at it, but hey it's Wicked Pickett - why not?
Magazine – I Love You, You Big Dummy (Captain Beefheart)
Mudhoney – Who’ll Be The Next In Line (The Kinks)
Wilson Pickett – Hey Joe (anybody who made a record during the 1960s)
Aretha Franklin – Satisfaction (Rolling Stones)
Ike & Tina Turner – Whole Lotta Love (Led Zeppelin)
Say what you want about Ike Turner (and there's a lot to say), the guy knew how to arrange a song.
The Meters – Come Together (The Beatles)
The Staple Singers – For What It’s Worth (Buffalo Springfield)
Isaac Hayes – Lay, Lady, Lay (Bob Dylan)
Donny Hathaway – Jealous Guy (john Lennon)
Harry Nilsson – Many Rivers To Cross (Jimmy Cliff)
Rumor has it that Nilsson was spitting blood at the end of this take. Told you he was hardcore.
The Specials – Pressure Drop (Toots & The Maytals)
The Posies – King Midas In Reverse (The Hollies)
The Fall – Victoria (The Kinks)
Petra Haden – Odorono (The Who)
The Langley Schools Music Project – Desperado (The frickin’ Eagles)
Yes, as much as it pains me, I have played an Eagles song - redeemed by the utter devastation of a little girl's existential lonliness.
That's it for today, As always, thanks for listening.
Thanks, bmarkey, I had to log out just before the end and I'm sick that I missed the Fall covering Victoria. There were plenty of others to make up for it though.
