What pinky said, except that I only owe the state, like, twenty bucks, and frankly I'd gladly pay more if I knew my state would spend it on something that wasn't completely appalling.
We owe for federal but get a state return. It's a net owe, but not too much. I don't know the whys or wherefores though. I handle all of our day to day finances and mr. gaspode does the taxes (because he likes to quadruple check everything and that drives me crazy and I think he secretly doesn't believe that I've never made a mistake on my tax return in my life). I think we're going to file 'em tomorrow.
No, I haven't, and I SUCK. I need to do them in order to apply for financial aid, which, given that I have classes this summer, needs to happen about... two months ago. Fuckity fuck fuck.
This weekend. I swear. I know I said that last weekend and the weekend before and the weekend before that too but seriously really absolutely. This weekend. I hope.
I will owe on Feds, a couple hundred, and a bit more to state. I have been dragging my feet. .I have to move a bit of money around to improve the numbers, and I have been dragging my feet, since there is no financial incentive for me to get right on it.
Maybe this weekend.
I am going to use the download version of TaxAct, which costs around $17 for everything.
Haven't, because I've been working every weekend and almost every night on Freelance Project That Wouldn't Die or catching up on regular work projects (because when authors disregard deadlines for MONTHS, guess who has to give up her personal life to make up for lost time? Gee, that's right, bastard-people, your EDITOR).
It's going to get worse for awhile before it gets any better, too, so for the first time ever I'm thinking of filing for an extension. Bleh.
Got my federal refund already but haven't filed state. Since I owe state, I'm not filing 'til the 15th; I'd rather be earning the interest on the money than letting the gov't have the additional interest.
I always owe state because I work in a state with no income tax, but live across the river in a state that does have income tax. With no withholding, it adds up fast. I'm supposed to make quarterly payments but I haven't really mastered that yet, so it comes out in a lump sum.
Not yet; need to download a W-2 and either go to Sears or call H&R Block. May file an extension.
My eventually-to-be-ex had waited, gotten extensions, then had us file jointly the two years so far that we've been separated; this time, she surprised me: When I asked how the divorce was coming, she mentioned in passing, "Well, once I get my tax refund, I'll be making an appointment to meet..." She hadn't even told me I was on my own this year "...but I was planning to, I swear; it's just that I've been so busy." Grrrr.
So -- maybe I'll pick up the extension form next Wed at the library if I haven't made an appointment by then.
I owe the feds $600 this year and there is no state tax where I live. This is the first time I've ever not gotten a refund. Actually that's not true. Due to complete stupidity on my part on tax year 2002 I sold a bunch of options and didn't report it. Not intentional. Just stupid. The tax man found out a few years later and with the penalties and fees I ended up owing about $10k. I'm on a payment plan so every month the IRS takes money out of my checking account. I'd like to think this money is going to education and alternative energy programs, but I have a feeling it is going to Bush's war.
Figured, but not filed. But I should get them in, because we're getting a little back and all that's standing in my way is half an hour of inking over pencil and making photocopies. I guess this makes me like one of the people who don't fill out rebate forms.
Nope. We're getting about $600 back federal and there's no state tax here (thanks Tourists!) We have to get the daycare information and then we'll be set.
For some weird reason, we can't e-file this year. We got a letter stating that because of us not validating our PIN for the electronic signature blah blah blah we have to paper file. Sucks.
Phew. I was feeling like the only one here. I think this is the latest I've ever done my taxes. I really don't want to deal with it--this is the first year I've had to file two partial-residency state returns, one each for CA and MA. Turbotax seems to think that BOTH CA and MA get to tax the full amount I made this year, which is just ALL WRONG, but I haven't sat down to sort it out yet. Boo.
I don't have time to read all the comments, I need to go to bed, but here's my answer: No. I did make an appointment for next Tuesday, so I'm close. I've never delayed filing this long before. I will get a refund, so I don't know what my problem is.
