29 March 2007

A high pollen count is considered to be anything above 120, meaning, 120 particles in a cubic meter of air.

Today's pollen count in Atlanta is 5937.
Ah-choo!!!

Eeee- when was the last time it rained? Rain generally clears the air, yes?

Yes, TPS... we're having an unusually dry spring, which is why it's blowing around in little drifts. SLIGHT chance of rain tomorrow, but I'm not counting on it.

I never had any seasonal allergies until I lived in Roswell, where spring average pollen counts seemed to be in the 700s. Too many pine trees! :)

I'll do a little rain dance for you.

It's doing the same thing in Charlotte ... yellow powder everywhere.

Pine pollen, one of the things I keep forgetting to miss about Columbia, SC. :o| But I *did* miss the azaleas.

I know it's the invisible pollen that kills your sinuses and triggers allergies, but something about SEEING everything coated in yellow fuzz just reminds you of how much crap is floating around in the air.

We're knee-deep in juniper, cedar, and elm pollen here in Portland. I am miserable.

Ours is off-the-charts high too: Alder, Ash and Poplar/Aspen/Cottonwood. I never knew I was allergic to those things, but I do now.

I'd rather have pollen than benzene and exhaust. I mean, I'll be sneezing either way, it might as well be something that makes little bumblebee pants.

Ack, BP. We managed to get a few drops today - enough to make bright yellow puddle rings and sidewalk cracks. It's been crazy this year.

Huh. Warm winters in those locales? Has anyone figured out why the pollen counts are so high?

Yesterday I was amazed to actually see the pollen flying off the trees. Standing at my son's bus stop, we thought it was smoke at first, but it smelled like dust. Pollen! I even saw it in the sky, trying to disguise itself as smoke or something. I don't ever remember seeing it like this before.

Holy crap it's 7,009 here in Charlotte, NC. No wonder I can't breathe.
