What % of TV is power (and $$) obsessed these days? I just heard a radio promo for Showtime's the Tudors. Pure shmaltz. "No woman could resisit him." Even BBC is full of shite like Footballer's Wives. Power/money/sex. A related question: Have you ever considered tuning a radio to a light jazz station then smashing it with a large hammer?
Watch the movie Network, listen to Howard Beale's (Peter Finch, in his final film role) rants, and consider how much worse TV actually is than the 1976 black comedy you're watching. Other than old movies, documentaries, and checking the wx, I barely watch mine anymore. I like real life much better.

Light-jazz radio...try hopping around among genres on Internet radio for a while. Listen to more third-world, folk, and classical music. But yeah, I consider smashing lots of stuff with hammers.

I haven't watched TV in seven years and I don't find I miss it. All we have is a DVD player and we're fine; that way we can watch TV that we actually want to (BSG, Buffy, the X-Files) and not bother with the rest.

Lite Jazz - death. Up against wall when revolution etc. Not to mention my local public station which I have had it up to the proverbial HERE with since they play all this stupid jazz and argh swing which I HATE. And they're pledge driving right now which means my alarm clock goes off and it's some song I loathe with every fiber of my being and then they ask me for money to support their heinous bad music habit? Fat chance.

No, but once when I had to read a novel I intensely disliked, I bought a second copy and ripped out each page as I read it, wadded it up, and threw it away. Very satisfying. (notice I'm not saying which novel -- it'd probably turn out to be somebody's favorite.)

When the then England football manager Glen Hoddle called Paul Gascoigne to the office to tell him he was dropped from the 1998 World Cup squad, in a bid to defuse the situation, Hoddle stuck on some music. Kenny G, in fact.

Gazza wept, then went berserk and smashed a lamp. I blame Kenny G.

I stopped listening to radio decades before I stopped watching TV.

That's beautiful. "Kenny G Is Not Jazz" is like a mantra for anyone into jazz who gets stuck listening to Jazz Lite. The station I'm sometimes forced to listen to at work makes me think even more ansurd things, like "Hall and Oats is not jazz" and "Phil Collins is not jazz." Ghaaah

"ansurd = "absurd," of course.

Nope. I find that life's too short to wallow in the things you dislike.

If I hate the station, I just switch to something else. Or avoid it in the first place.

Sagely advice, jason's, but I don't control the radio here at work. And I think you're missing out on something if you've never smashed something you've necessarilly suffered with for a prolonged period of time. Pummelling an alarm clock (similar to the copy machine in Office Space but well before) was one of the most cathartic experiences I've had.

Yeah, the ad for The Tudors is cheesy. BUT, I've watched the first episode and it was pretty good. I'll watch the second one in a day or two.
