sadly, I'm told that skinned cats and rabbit carcasses look appallingly similar.

This does not bode well for those who eat rabbit in shady restaurants, by the way.

During WW2 when Britain was subject to strict rationing, reputable butchers used to leave the heads on the skinned rabbit carcases hanging up for sale so that people could be reassured they weren't cats.
