Smile, and the world smiles with you… [More:]is that a quote from somewhere?

I was on the way to pick up my car from the service station yesterday evening, when I passed a labourer (boy) who must’ve been about 9 or 10 years old, finishing up on a hard day’s work, and there was this instance when our eyes met and we were connected for this one second—and I couldn’t let go of him. So I looked him straight in the eye and the weirdest most awesome thing happened… a smile crept up on my face and then erupted all over me. I think I caught him pretty unawares too, because he didn’t know what to do.

It got me to thinking how often we get the chance to smile and don’t for fear of it being too weird or silly.:-)
Ella Wheeler Wilcox, SOLITUDE (first stanza only)

Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone,
For sad old earth must borrow its mirth,
But has trouble enough of its own.
Sing, and the hills will answer;
Sigh, it is lost on the air,
The echoes bound to a joyful sound,
But shrink from voicing care.

it's not really my kind of poem, but that "For sad old earth / must borrow its mirth" always sticks in my head like the middle of a limerick I just can't quite remember.
