Writer's block sucks. [More:]I have been sitting here for the last 2 hours trying to work on a speech for my mandarin class this Saturday. I can't get past "greetings, my fellow students." And I'm so annoyed.

It's not like I have to think of anything earth shattering to talk about. The emphasis is conversation and the point of this assignment is to practice speaking. We could talk about anything...a hobby, a place we like to visit, our pets, whatever.

But I'm drawing a blank.

And it's driving me nuts!!!!!

Nuts I say!!!
Talk about nuts.

That sounded flippant but seriously, talk about nuts. Or snacks. Or your favorite food. Nuts are interesting because they generally come from a different culture if you're in North America, as you seem to be. You could branch off from there.

Haha! My brother suggested flowers in passing when I complained, in a rather whiney tone, that I needed a topic.

If I sit back and think about it, the root of my problem is probably in trying to articulate myself in a language that is not my first. Having to refer to a dictionary each time I find a gap in my vocabulary (which is often) hampers the flow and it's frustrating because words come far more easily in English.

Talk about "the weirdos that hang out on this bunny web site I go to".

It's such a dreary cliché, but you could always talk about your inability to think of something to say.

This is a perfect jumping off point, phoenixc. Go with it.

Talk about how WHAM were the first western musical artists to play in communist China.
