How's your Sunday going? →[More:]I've had a mixed day so far. I went to Harlow to take a jacket back to TK Maxx that I bought last week and then changed my mind about. I looked for another, but couldn't see anything that wasn't either old-lady frumpy or too small. And that was in every shop I looked in, not just TK Maxx. I mean, I know I am chunky (UK size 14, US 12), but even things that were the 'right' size had sleeves so narrow I couldn't lift up my arms. And the chain stores that sell non-old-lady things had nothing -
nothing - in my size at all, everything was size 8-12 (US 4-8).
But I did get some silicone bakeware in TK Maxx. I was given a round baking dish for Christmas and I love it, so I grabbed the chance to buy a loaf pan, square pan, muffin pan and a big round pie dish at discount prices. I may go back another time for the Bundt pan, I'll see.
There's a peppered beef stew simmering in the slow cooker, so I have a lovely dinner for later. I'll have it with broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage (it already contains a load of carrots, and I'll mushrooms shortly). If I have room afterwards, I'll make roasted pineapple with Greek yoghurt.
Oh, and reading the local paper, I see that we are getting yet another frou-frou shop in our local high street. Over the past ten years all the 'proper' shops have gone - the newsagent, fishmonger, motor spares, butcher, hardware, pet supplies, Italian deli, bakery - to be replaced by 'designer' this and that.
Now we have boutiques selling clothes that have no prices on them so they are obviously out of my price range and most definitely do not stock anything in my size, florists, perfumiers, jewellers, designer kitchen and furniture shops, estate agents, Pilates studios, restaurants and cafes, TWO designer wedding boutiques, gift stores, and lots and lots of hairdressers, tanning salons, nail bars, beauty salons and, of course, the
Botox clinic.
So it says in the paper that there is what is described as a "pet couture" store about to open where the little stationery and printing business closed down a few months ago. And I expect the dippy bleached blonde fake tan plastic fingernail designer-clad harridan who runs it for a hobby has absolutely no idea of the difference between "designer" and "couture" either.
