I have made exactly 300 MeCha posts! D'oh! 301 now... I guess I should go see the film
300 today. Anyway: Ghaaah! Sculpey is great 'cuz it bakes, but it drives me nuts. Dilemna.

Okay, so you have to
cast plastilene
(if you want it in a permanent, play-with-able, paintable, etc. form), which is crazy, time-consuming, no-fun business.
But with plastilene, you can
make a simple armiture (like a stainless or aluminum pipe secured to wood with some type of floor-flange) then just go nuts without worrying about thickness of the clay.
So inspiration can take you wherever you want, which it does,
once your hands are in the clay.
BUT, since Sculpey and Fimo and such can only be about 1/2 inch thick, you have to do an extensive armiture/core for larger pieces. But then what if inspiration takes you down a road you didn't plan, travelling far away (more than 1/2") from the armiture you built?
Ghaaah.
