Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears fans, of their work on the Hurting and/or Songs from the Big Chair; what did/do you think of Seeds of Love (the song)? Too cheesy? Awesome? The end of TfF as we know it?
It was during the time I was part of the writing staff for a radio comedy service (you think the local djs came up with their own jokes?) and everybody came up with a parody lyric for that song. The winning lyric (not mine) was titled "Ripping the Beatles Off", it was funny, nasty and pretty much on target, and I could never again hear that song without thinking of that lyric.
Being a big psych-pop fan I liked it but I think coming back from a long break with a Beatles pastiche was a big mistake as it gave the impression they'd run out of ideas (and gave no clues as to what the album was like).
In the context of when it came out, it was truly awful, in my opinion. By that time the psychedelia phase of 80's rock was already tired and played-out, and then here was Tears for Fears and Daryll Hall jumping on the trippy bandwagon a few years too late.
But in retrospect, it's still awful.
I don't like it because it fakes me out every time I hear the start of it. It's like that Oasis song, I forget what it's called, oh yeah, all of them, whereby I hear them on the radio and I think it's the Beatles until about 20 seconds in.
Seeds of Love is the death of not only TFF, but of music as a whole. Why they dropped that poopie on top of their previous, highly-cool catalog defies my powers of logic.
Eideteker? Drop that poopie and pay attention to me!
