Loquacious vs The Nazis. Just wanted to highlight Loquacious' fantastic attempt to shame participants in a 27 month long "debate" about a neo-nazi preteen pop-duo.
Uhm, yeah, so, that's something I do when I'm not on Metafilter, is go out and make random (generally topical) comments on stuff I find. It's writing practice. Plus I link back to my mefi user page, which is all part of my master plan of getting the #1 google result for "loquacious". The highest I've been so far is #2, briefly, then they changed the pagerank rules and I dropped to like 5th or 7th for a while. Bastards.
And, loq, there is no shame in being behind the dictionary definitions of your nick on Google, but what is with the current loquacious #3? A former blog at greenspun.com which now says only "This service has been disabled due to tens of thousands of postings by spammers." Yes, but without all that spam, that blog never would've been #3.
This prompted me to Google myself and I discovered to my delight that I am currently my highest ranking for "wendell" EVAH. I'm #4! I'm #4! Right behind the Town of Wendell, North Carolina, Wendell August American-made Giftware and Wendell Berry and the Agrarian Tradition. And ahead of Wendell, Idaho, Wendell Castle Art Furniture, Wendell, Massachusetts, Wendell Willkie and Nobel Prize Chemistry Winner Wendell M. Stanley. Considering I've only updated the wendellwit.com blog like three times in the last month, I am awestruck. (but then, this isn't the first time Google has rewarded me for NOT blogging... hmmm) I'd be happy to just be ahead of Oliver Wendell Holmes and Ask Wendell the Worm on the Discovery Kids site.
Of course, the Google search for wendellwit is all about me, since I have to use that as my nick anywhere I can't get 'wendell', but the front page includes profiles at a couple forums where I'd forgotten I was a member. I'm glad Google loves me, but I still don't trust them.
[ Which, now that I really read what roofus wrote, has already been pointed out. ]
Also, I used to be #4 in a Google search for deborah. I'm not sure why because my blog usually had somewhere between 50 & 100 daily readers. That really isn't much for such a high ranking.
I know. Can you imagine if the Metafilter thread for [that dumb band] stayed open for over two years? It'd have lke 20,000 posts by now and would have sparked several major land wars in Asia.
And thanks for the kind words. I was particularly proud of the "fundaments-cartographer" bit.
