28 February 2007

dear windows xp users [More:]

I frequently got headaches if I read too much text on the monitor but the problem seems to have all but went away. I had not really thought much about it, but I think it was when I started using this.
What were you using before?

Umm, you can do this without power toys. It's under display-appearance-advanced-smoothing of edged (or somesuch).

They should call it Fuzzy Text.

To some degree, I like anti-aliasing, but it's frequently overdone to the point that it is harder to read.

It's actually display-appearance-effects-use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts-ClearType.

And thanks, I had herd of ClearType, but had never got around to trying it. It looks much easier to read.

Well, my guess was a low refresh rate, but I was obviously wrong.

Using the Display properties page you can only enable or disable Cleartype. Using the tuner powertoy you get a slider which allows you to set the degree of antialiasing along a spectrum. To me, that's invaluable because the default is too fuzzy.

Wow, I just got home and tried this on the home computer- I can't BELIEVE how much of a difference it makes! Thanks so much, weretable!
