Um, it's mildly NSFW.

Most of those 2-page ads wouldn't have been in the centerfold, right? Or else the staples would look very painful. But if they're not, you could find the corresponding page gutter on the other half of the magazine, fold back the first and last pages and 'goatse' the thong ads... not that you'd ever want to do that.

And re: the soccer/condom ads in the MetaFilter thread, you know you're becoming a Web Senior Citizen when you know exactly how many times a meme has made a comeback...

And when you said "mind in the gutter", I knew you were talking about something rather risqué. Of course, these were perfectly Safe For Work at the Ad Agency Offices.

Yeah, pie, like that cat isn't going to bolt at the first sign of oncoming moisture... If you really want to block a gutter, use a dog (dachshunds and bassets are well-suited) because they'd just sit there, face the flow and drink up!

jesus, you're right wendell, I'm tres web-old how sad. Scuz me, I hafta check out my t-square shaped walking stick and go whack some kids off my lawn. (and mebbe get some sleep/a life instead of clocking ad reappearances, sheesh! Heh.)

I'm not saying you're OLD, dabie; after all I'm old enough to remember some meme repetitions in the double digits (AND know where they referenced 1960s TV cartoons referencing 1940s radio shows referencing 1860s sheet music referencing Cro-Magnon cave drawings...)

Sadly, I don't have a lawn to tell the kids to get off (I have a porch and some shrubbery, but past that, it's all pavement) and I never would've gotten away with it, even without those nosy kids and their dumb dogblog.

Ha! memes that reference Cro-Magnon cave drawings. I bet they do. ;) No I got it, I just find it kinda intruiging that memes do repeat every so often, games do, quizzes do, funny pages do, and of course, even ads do the rounds over and over again. I pay a lot more attention to the ads because, well as y'all know I'm an adnerd and sometimes I've even scanned or photographed the images. You know that feeling you get when a link you blogged about appears on Metafilter? I kinda kick myself for not posting "damn, I didn't think that was blue material" and then join the thread with extra info (if I have any). Imagine that when you see stuff you've posted appear on the blue but the link isn't to your site. And it's five years old! It's like getting stuck in a timewarp! Ha!

I do wonder why that meme-reapping thang is roughly two years? Does the internets get enough n00bs in that time to start sending stuff around again, or does it take two years to reach around the internet and back?
