Curious Bunny: Where was this photo taken?
Judging by the trees I'd say somewhere (sub-)tropical, judging by the architecture I'd say perhaps South America.

It's a moderate-to-large city in a mountainous area where they drive on the right. It was photographed for NatGeo, but searching their archives is hell.

That's all I got.

Johannesburg? NGA did a story on it in 2003...

Not a bad guess, the mountains in the background make me want to say Rio.

I'm pretty sure it's Naples, because I'm almost certain that's Vesuvius in the background.

The cars are definitely European; one of them quite obviously has an EU license plate.

ikkyu2 FTW! Thanks a lot.

Now... any idea where in Napoli? It's not showing the harbour/bay or any of the high-rise, so that should limit the options somewhat. Anyone familiar with the area?

I find this photo absolutely intriguing.

Found the photograph, but no precise location mentioned.

Naples, Italy, 1997

Photograph by David Alan Harvey

"[On the streets of Naples] red lights, few as there may be, are the most obvious example of individualism in full flower. 'If I see that my light is red,' one man explained with the air of simplistic logic, 'I know that the others will wait for me, even if they have the green light.'"

—Text adapted from 'Naples Unabashed,' March 1998, National Geographic magazine

(Photographed on assignment for, but not published in, "Naples Unabashed," March 1998, National Geographic magazine)

I love that ikkyu2 saw the mountain and was all "I'm almost certain that's Vesuvius in the background." - I didn't even NOTICE there was a mountain in the background.

It scared me, fbk; looking at the picture, I was afraid it might erupt at any moment.
