Radio TheDonF Two hours of music for those who want to listen to it. This time it's organised!
Robert Gomez is a rather excellent find. This track is on his new album, Brand New Town, that just came out in the Europe. He's signed to Bella Union which is home to some fantastic artists - I saw him in London late last year with Fionn Regan and Midlake. That was a fantastic gig. There's a slight Elliott Smith tinge to some of his stuff and it's well worth checking out more.
I'm really loving this set, TheDonF, and I'm not just saying that. It's a great mix of artists I am very familiar with, those whose work I only know via a song or two, and those who i've never heard of.
And now you're playing U2. Well, this is just a lovely way to start the weekend. And I'm still at work! :-)
Black out the windows
It's party time
You know how I love stormy weather
So, let's all play suicide
The crowd wants you bleeding
The eyes from your head
Get off your knees
You'll be fine-
I saw The Twilight Singers play that song in January 2004 and they dedicated it to David Kelly who had only recently been found dead. It was darkly moving.
Actually, according to that Wikipedia article, he'd been dead a while. But for some reason, the whole subject was very recently controversial and on the news a lot.
"I was 2 when this Jackson Browne album came out! I dug it out again last week - I'd forgotten how much I like it."

There ya go, then, and that explains a lot. The first Jackson Browne "album" I bought was on 8 track tape.
I still think of Jackson Browne as "that young Eagles wanna be guy". And that's probably one big reason I don't listen to rock much anymore -- it reminds me how damn old and crotchety I am, and how much I was gonna hate being this way when I got here.
I remember getting lifts to school when I was young and the car we were in had an 8 track. It was great - the woman driving us used to play loads of Ian Dury and I used to run around afterwards singing "hit me with your rhythm stick", not having a clue what it meant. I'm not sure I still do, to be honest!
When my mom was culling her music collection in preparation for a move, I got first crack at it. I saved several 8-tracks even though I knew I couldn't play them, for the sheer waves of comfort nostalgia. Among those saved: a Village People live album, a compilation called Mellow Gold, and a Time Life Christmas compilation.
Then I got a rude awakening when a coworker of my husband's came over for a visit, spied them on the shelf and exclaimed," WOW!! An 8-track tape! I've never really seen one before!!"
Much gorgeousness from Sigur Ros. UK listeners will know this from almost every other trailer the BBC has shown over the last year - especially anything featuring David Attenborough.
No worries - I enjoyed it as well; it was good to put in some "obvious" stuff that people would know as well as stuff that I hoped people hadn't heard of before. There's probably some unfashionable stuff in there as well - Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, possibly U2 - but I really like it. So there!
