Yay! This set has got new stuff, old stuff, stuff you'll know and stuff you probably (hopefully - it's always good to discover new stuff) won't.

The Denial Twist by The White Stripes

I have Thunder, Lightning, Strike!, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots and The Weight is a Gift tho, so it's a cinch i'd like this set.

gawd dude... are you channelling me? I have So Jealous and White Blood Cells too...
posted by lonefrontranger 23 February | 15:06
Sorry about the worky no listen :( I have that now, as well.

Store Bought Blues by The Raconteurs
Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) by The Decemberists
All We Got by Robert Gomez
Phantom Limb by The Shins

Robert Gomez is a rather excellent find. This track is on his new album, Brand New Town, that just came out in the Europe. He's signed to Bella Union which is home to some fantastic artists - I saw him in London late last year with Fionn Regan and Midlake. That was a fantastic gig. There's a slight Elliott Smith tinge to some of his stuff and it's well worth checking out more.

*bookmarks thread for future reference*

gad, dude. i'd say 'i wanna bootleg your whole iTunes collection' but on review i'd have so many doubles it'd take me a week's worth of cleaning.

decemberists, check
shins, check
raconteurs, yep that one too

sigh.

I'm really loving this set, TheDonF, and I'm not just saying that. It's a great mix of artists I am very familiar with, those whose work I only know via a song or two, and those who i've never heard of.

And now you're playing U2. Well, this is just a lovely way to start the weekend. And I'm still at work! :-)
posted by initapplette 23 February | 15:40
I don't listen to much rock any more, but even I recognized U2. Something for everyone!
posted by paulsc 23 February | 15:42
Hang on I'm listening to Mercury Rev right now when did U2 happen???
posted by Wilder 23 February | 15:48
U2 happened the second song before Mercury Rev.

You can see a running playlist here: http://metachat.org/radio/

Glad you're enjoying it :)

Jet Pilot by Son Volt
You Wreck Me by Tom Petty
The Fly by U2
Martin Eden by The Twilight Singers:

Black out the windows
It's party time
You know how I love stormy weather
So, let's all play suicide

The crowd wants you bleeding
The eyes from your head
Get off your knees
You'll be fine-

I saw The Twilight Singers play that song in January 2004 and they dedicated it to David Kelly who had only recently been found dead. It was darkly moving.
posted by TheDonF 23 February | 15:55
Actually, according to that Wikipedia article, he'd been dead a while. But for some reason, the whole subject was very recently controversial and on the news a lot.
posted by TheDonF 23 February | 15:57
thanks initaplette- For some bizarre reason I thought the running list was on here!
posted by Wilder 23 February | 16:01
Black Forest (Lorelei) by Mercury Rev
Pagan Poetry by Bjork
Crashing by Gersey
Late Night Conversation by Josh Rouse
Fountain Of Sorrow by Jackson Browne

I was 2 when this Jackson Browne album came out! I dug it out again last week - I'd forgotten how much I like it.
posted by TheDonF 23 February | 16:04
Wilder, the Radio MeCha page updates automatically. The list on here depends on the DJ coming here and posting it every so often.

There ya go, then, and that explains a lot. The first Jackson Browne "album" I bought was on 8 track tape.

I still think of Jackson Browne as "that young Eagles wanna be guy". And that's probably one big reason I don't listen to rock much anymore -- it reminds me how damn old and crotchety I am, and how much I was gonna hate being this way when I got here.

I remember getting lifts to school when I was young and the car we were in had an 8 track. It was great - the woman driving us used to play loads of Ian Dury and I used to run around afterwards singing "hit me with your rhythm stick", not having a clue what it meant. I'm not sure I still do, to be honest!

Care Of Cell #44 by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs
Hold On, Hold On by Neko Case
Outrageous by Paul Simon

This is from the latest Paul Simon album, which was really overlooked. It's quite as good as You're The One, but it's still good.

8 track! I wish I had an 8-track player.

When my mom was culling her music collection in preparation for a move, I got first crack at it. I saved several 8-tracks even though I knew I couldn't play them, for the sheer waves of comfort nostalgia. Among those saved: a Village People live album, a compilation called Mellow Gold, and a Time Life Christmas compilation.

Then I got a rude awakening when a coworker of my husband's came over for a visit, spied them on the shelf and exclaimed," WOW!! An 8-track tape! I've never really seen one before!!"
posted by initapplette 23 February | 16:20
May parents always had vinyl and cassette - never anything as retro cool as an 8 track :(

Undercover by Pete Yorn (for Specklet who seems to like him!)
Meeting Across The River by Bruce Springsteen
Hippipolla by Sigur Ros

Much gorgeousness from Sigur Ros. UK listeners will know this from almost every other trailer the BBC has shown over the last year - especially anything featuring David Attenborough.

And that's me :) Thanks all for listening, hope you enjoyed it. Have a good Friday and weekend.
posted by TheDonF 23 February | 16:31
Thank you eversomuch!
posted by initapplette 23 February | 16:33
No worries - I enjoyed it as well; it was good to put in some "obvious" stuff that people would know as well as stuff that I hoped people hadn't heard of before. There's probably some unfashionable stuff in there as well - Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, possibly U2 - but I really like it. So there!
