He's wearing a mobility cast on his right leg, which is heavily scarred due to the surgeries. When I got there, he was asleep and I was afraid to wake him up. But I touched his hand and he slowly opened his eyes and we had a brief, but good conversation before one of his friends called.
One good thing I can say is that it
wasn't a hit-and-run accident because the guy did stay at the scene and was reportedly very concerned. Joe still doesn't remember what happened, but again, it's to be expected.
He gets bored in the hospital and I offered to buy him a notebook so he could write. I ran downstairs to see if the gift shop had any blank notebooks, but they didn't. What kind of hospital gift shop doesn't have notebooks?? I did buy him a nice pen, and the gal behind the counter gave me pages from her own notebook to take back up to him. When I visit next week, I'm going to bring him a nice big, sturdy blank book.
Physical rehab starts this week.
