13 February 2007

This is the time of day when the posts and comments really slow down. But this is also the time of day when I'm most bored! I neeeeed you, bunnies! *whines*
I've been making bunnies all day. I have eight now. Woot! I have only had twi cigarettes today - both while in the car during my attempt to go to work. Since I turned around and came home, I haven't ventured out into the blowing tundra that is Chicago. My car is parked in front of my building and I can see the snowdrift blocking me in. How is your baby doing, Speck?

Pips is watching American Idol. I'm listening to Bruce Springsteen's "Night" to wash the taste out of my ears, and to kill time until tonight's M*A*S*H rerun comes on. It's the one where henry Blake dies. That one gets me choked up since it drives home the fact that war always kills those who have no business dying that way.

I called my mom and wished her a happy 61st birthday ( I caught her just as she was rushing out to her night job). I didn't tell her about my unemployment since she's got enough worries. She told me to keep March 18th free for my nephew's christening.

(soory, took your post as an invitation ro babble)

Yeah...how's your critter, Specklet?

(I can't watch that episode, jon. Still a punch in the gut.)

Working, working, working. It is always quiet around this time and picks up nicely just when I leave work and my only access to the Intarwebs at present :-(

jonmc, I remember that episode - even after watching it god knows how many times, I still get a lump in my throat every time. That and Goodbye, Farewell, Amen, which can sometimes make me shed an actual tear.

When I'm bored, I watch funny videos.

(heh. I was doing our laundry this afternoon (i'm such a good househusband) and while having a few beers during the dry cycle, the crusty old barflys at my local dive said the same thing. also, now that I'm older and have some historical knowledge, the early episodes are much funnier than when I was a kid)

I got off work at 2:00, did some last-minute V-Day shopping, bought some cheap rum, and walked home in the snow. I'm now half-lit on said cheap rum. Life doesn't suck.

It's 8:30 at night and I've been at work since 7 am. I had a technology meltdown that cost me DAYS of work... so I'm staying here trying to catch back up. (Because if I don't catch up, my vacation next week is in jeopardy.) *sigh* It's going to SUCK trying to get back in here at 7 am again tomorrow.

On the plus side, I'm having dinner with rainbaby tomorrow night!

Babble away, Jon, that's kind of what I was asking for.

I have five bunnies made, youngergirl. They have creepy button eyes and they're all on my coffee table, waiting for me to get home so they can stare at me while I stitch another one.

And the babies are better, thanks! I'm anxious to get home and check on them (especially to see if Scout's still all sneezy and wheezy), since Sunday and yesterday I was with them constantly.

Now that I know Scout's going to be okay, I can allow myself to find his little sicky noises adorable. He has this little squeak when he breaths that just slays me. It goes away when he sleeps, so I know he's waking up when I hear a tiny "peep, squeak, squeak, pff, peep" coming from between my boobs.

jon, I didn't know that DumbCo had finally let you go! I hope you're able to enjoy unemployment, even if it is rather stressful...

i so should have done laundry but i can't make myself absolutely until it's an underwear crisis.
Which means i have two days.

What, no collar pics?

Speck, I saw people talking about Scout being better- CONGRATS! :) What was the problem? Do you know?

Having sick pets stresses the hell out of me... I can imagine how worried you were.

I'm loving it. After starting the day with Bailey's-infused coffee I spend most of the day countdown blogging in my bathrobe and catching up on my reading. In a week or two, I'll start contemplating my next move.

(I also have to get Pips a valentines gift tommorrow. Still not sure what)

Yeah, I want to see glider-sized collar pictures.

hi Specklet! I'm sooooo glad to hear that the gliders are better! or at least not deathly ill. i wanted to ask earlier today but was afraid to.

well I worked all day - i have a new-ish job working for a biotech startup and it's a cool job. rode to work this morning in the snow, but chickened out this evening, since it was freezing rain and icy and now it's only ten degrees out and I can't find my damned face mask ANYWHERE. grmpf. Now I'm listening to some of my fave cheezy pop music (Angels and Airwaves, yes i know they suck kthx), processing photos from this past weekend and doing laundry. lots and lots of laundry. and trying not to drool too much at the amazing smells my roommate's causing as he makes us both some pimpin' MEATLOAF, baby!

tomorrow the boyo is coming up and cooking dinner for me, yay! he's being very circumspect but made a point of wanting to come up this wednesday. durrr me, only yesterday did I recall that it's Thank God I'm Si... err, that'd be St. Valentine's Day. i guess he's the sort that feels compelled to Do Things for said holiday, so i'll be gracious.

oh and btw I was also in the 'ZOMG NO MORE DUMBCO?!?!?!' camp up until a couple days ago. honestly jonmc, getting fired from a really shitty job in Cincy a few years back (Arthur Andersen now that you ask, lol) was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

I was off today, and although it snowed all day we have nothing to show for it. Except now, it's hailing so everything will be coated with ice. Yee Haa. And I only have a bunny and a half made. If it's icy in the morning, I'm not going to work (and I have a couple of vacation days the rest of the week, tee hee). I did finish another scarf, though. That's something.

When I'm bored, and I remember it's a Tuesday night, I sometimes find myself in front of the TV watching Miami Ink on TLC. I like the stories, and Ami when he's at his crusty-ass best, plus I think Nunez is cute.

p.s. what's this about making bunnies? I feel like I've missed something.

Yay for the joys of being unemployed!

Re: sugar glider collars. I don't think you guys understand. They weren't cute little dog-like collars, they were wearing e collars. They were pure and absolute torture for the guys. I have the image of them hobbling around in them while the edges of the collars wore away fur and then skin burned into my brain. You couldn't pay me enough money to immortalize that in film.

BP, what happened to Scout was: he got worn out from being stressed because of the fucking collar.

I'm so happy he's better, and still coming down from my worry over him (and Dill).

Whew.

Speck: I knew it would have been that type of collar, I'm just amazed that they have them small enough for a glider. I'm sorry that he got sick from being in the collar.

well...they're ok.

We're getting our new TV delivered tommorrow (2 days late because a certain electronics chain is staffed by mumbing morons). 42" plasma...sweet. Thank goodness for wedding present gift cards.

He he, a cab jus got stuck in the street in front of my house. That will be me in the morning, I can be sure of it.

Thanks for the glider update, Specklet my sweet. I'm so glad they're doing better.

This weekend I came up with what I (and apparently a few others) think is a fantastic idea for a sideline business in the summer. This afternoon I hung out with my boss & his missus, borrowing an assload of blues and jazz and talking about the possible socio-political minefields doing anything in such a small community would involve, and I think I'm closer to doing it! It also gave me the idea of doing guerrilla dinners--invitation only (so word of mouth), 4 or 5 courses (haven't decided yet), set price, set menu, BYOB, in my home (once the inside looks better, which is doable). It's an island experience, baby, and an exclusive one. So if you wanna come and be a recipe guinea pig, we might be able to arrange that ;)

I'm very behind on making bunnies. I'm hoping to get them going again this weekend.

I just have to say, all this talk of bunnies is a sort of private joke for me.

I've spent a lot of time with babies and young children, and have nannied many a child. I've heard parents refer to bodily functions as all kind of things, but this one mom I worked for took the cake. (Understand that I speak to infants and children as the human beings that they are; they are just as intelligent as adults.) Anyway, this woman refered to pooping as "making bunnies". "Do you need to make bunnies?" she'd ask her child, as I stood by in mute horror...
