Radio Mecha - Music Box: Rough Jazz I'm on the Radio Mecha, inspired by paulsc, playing what I'll call rough jazz. Crazy bebop, artsy composition, improvisation, skronky freakouts, that kind of stuff. Making it up as I go along, though I will probably aim for chronological order.

Please listen, if you're so inclined. Or, if you'd like me to get off, just say the word.

So far:
Dizzy Gillespie - Pop's Confessin (from School Days, with Milt Jackson and Joe Carroll)
Cecil Taylor - Azure (from Jazz Advance, 1956)
Charles Mingus - Blue Greens (1959)
Ornette Coleman - Change of the Century (eponymous album, 1959)
Max Roach - Triptych (Prayer, Protest, Peace) (a duet with vocalist Abbey Lincoln, from We Insist! Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite, 1960)
The Gil Evans Orchestra - Pots (Wanna hear a funny story? Half the songs on this album, 1961's Into the Hot, have nothing to do with Gil Evans whatsoever--they're the Cecil Taylor Septet, with, among others, Roswell Rudd, Archie Shepp and Sunny Murray. This is one of the Taylor songs.)

Thelonious Monk - Body and Soul (from 1963's Monk's Dream)

This is the last song, and thanks for listening. If I make another playlist like this, maybe I'll start in 1963.

Booo! I'm sorry I missed it, box.

Sorry I missed it, too, box. Please do make another playlist, like this. Good stuff was happening in 1963, and you've an ear and library for that.

And, you should consider re-broadcast of some of your playlists. Your mixes frequently deserve more than one hearing.

The dibs page is your friend, and the friend of all Mechans looking for music. Maybe, the Powers That Be might consider a sidebar link to it, to direct attention to upcoming likely intersections with musical greatness.
