OMG, apartment! Eeee! I'm so excited! Remember the place I told you about, but hadn't seen yet? Well, I've finally seen it, it rocks, we're taking it.

Did I mention that it rocks? [More:]

It rocks so hard. The area is... incredible. Impossible. It's an impossible place. A quiet, sweet, green, gracious oasis in the middle of Athens... it's amazing. Close enough for us to walk to everywhere we want to go for fun and edification; close to a few seriously serious wonders of the world; the closest greengrocer (which is quite close indeed!) sells organic vegetables; the nearest small, quaint grocery seems a lovely place (woo! - you should see the wine and liquor shelves!)... and... it's just so serene that it's actually surreal once you know what most of the rest of the city is like. It's really totally amazing that we could find a place in this neighborhood that we could afford at all, much less like so very, very much. Omg.

I took pix, but really, really quickly because we had to be somewhere else right away, so they aren't that great, and I didn't stop to crop or frame them. But we are going back this weekend to take measurements, and to check out the neighborhood further, so I might be able to show you something slightly more lovely later. Nevertheless, here are the shots:

outside the bedroom (bigger out there than it looks in this pic, also, you can kind of see a second door there - this leads to another, attached, space that belongs to the place which will be our "shop" room for tools and work space. Woo!):

It's going to have a guest couch, right? Right??

mgl! You come, babybaby - I'll make you delicious creole food after a nice walk to the Acropolis! We'll make proper sacrifices to Athena (we love her!), and shop for coco-mat for my bedroom floor! :)

I do love that the doors between the two front rooms are pretty nice and wide so it can be a continuous space, but that they will allow us to kind of close one section off in case we have guests - without sacrificing a whole room as a "guest room" (which I would never do, unless I had, like, four bedrooms).

heh, pupps. It has your name written on it. :)

We have been mumbling about an international meetup in Athens, you know. :)

taz, I do not envy you the full frontal sensory assault that is Athens on an August afternoon, but the pics of your new flat look lovely. Here's to your happiness there, and an end of loneliness, if it means being with your husband more.

That place makes me want to die. In a good way. Congratulations~!

oh god I'm jealous... I know, I know, I live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, but it's been cold and snowy for TWO MONTHS STRAIGHT now and i'm too darned broke to go ski.

congrats, taz. I wish you all the best in your new awesome apartment!

Thank you, thank you!

Paulsc, it seems that the average temperature in July and August is only a little higher in Athens, than where I live now, but the "discomfort from heat and humidity" is lower. According to BBC, anyway - and god, I hope they're right.

I guess built in the 50's or something? Quite good condition too... Maybe the bathroom but, I love decorating bathrooms and you will do fantastic.

Are you close to the metro line? Can you find a place for me near you?
