03 February 2007

I might have to break up a 14-month love affair between two kids. They grew up together as abandoned orphans on a farm. Suffered together through loneliness, starvation and the cold. They're bonded and play constantly. I don't know if I can do it. But all of my rescue group friends are finally breaking it to me that adopting two big dogs together into one good home with a fenced-in yard is pretty much a pipe dream. I'm sad.
They're my foster dogs, of course, and they've been here two months, which is two months longer than I expected. They can't stay here where they can't play outside, are cooped up when I'm gone, and the keep my cats hiding upstairs constantly... It just won't work.

Oh man, that is sad.

I'm sorry to hear it, shane. I will send good thoughts about finding them a good home. But, if you do have to break them up, their sadness will pass and they'll have great lives with their new families.

It's odd, but I become more concerned when I realized that you were talking about dogs and not people. I'll second what Speklet says, though.

heh! well, they're spayed & neutered. and animals feel things as deeply as we do. more deeply & intensely, if i'm right... much more.

They'll bounce back quickly with their respective new families. You've been a saint to care for them for so long.

Awww. Don't kick yourself in the emotional butt too much, shane. You've done wonders for these kids. If what I infer is correct, they're just a hair over a year old. The most important thing is finding them good, loving, forever homes, be that separated or together. Even if they're split up, they'll each go on to have fantastic lives.

Good on you.
