I would like to have a word with the inventor of vodka, and the inventor of double-shot glasses, and kill them [More:] What kind of vodka, you ask? Crappy. Flavored. I don't know. All I know is I've been feeling too shitty to get out of bed until now (4:30 EST), and even now I'm rethinking the decision.

I've failed Specklet, but I'm reaffirming my vows of going dry, now until March 3rd. For real this time. I don't even want to look at a bottle of Listerine at this point.

And a question: Why, oh why, does my balance seem... off? Like when you have a cold and you're just dizzy all the time... it's like that. When can I expect that to pass?
2 days from now. And points off for flavored vodka.

Never.

heh.

Ok, what you have to do is replace the minerals & vitamins you lost last night. If you can handle it, bananas have potassium, grapefruit (as in juice) have 'em, and Ramlösa mineral water has an excellent supply of minerals and goes down easy. I don't know why but no other mineral water kicks a hangover quite like that one. A hot bath will help you sweat things out, failing that stay under the covers for the eary sitcom hours.

Vitamin B, Zand's Thistle Cleanse and tons of water.

COMRADE IS TRAITOR! MUST DESTORY-

Oh, wait. Is flavored vodka you are saying. Therefore, is not to be exterminating.

More vodka. It's the only way.

(thanks to brujita, I developed a wicked craving for blueberry Stoli... makes a mean blueberry kamakazi... suicide never felt so good : )

Water. You need lots of water. The dizziness will pass after a good night's sleep.

And I'm going to March 3rd as well, because I cheated last night and had beer. *sheepish Specklet*

I feel instantly less guilty knowing that we cheated together. Unplanned, even.

Ok. It is almost six, so I'm going to try and take a shower, and then maybe get some food.

Thanks for the advice you guys. I had to settle for gatorade, but I'll definitely look into those options.

(thanks to brujita, I developed a wicked craving for blueberry Stoli...

Some friends of mine invented a drink using blueberry Stoli that they called a "Violent Beauregarde." My head throbs just remembering the day after...

I've been drinking vodka and water and/or juice and/or sometimes maybe occasionally coffee (if not just on the side) for ages now, and recently switched to pure grain alcohol due to the weird taxes and state liquor stores making it just make more sense.

Someone pointed out to me in IRC the other day the epithet/axiom/idion "moonshine and rainwater", which I suppose is accurate but being from the west/southwest I'm not familiar with the lore. But it's apt.

Doing so facilitates drinking enough water if you do it right, mitigating hangovers. Mixes can be tailored for more or less potentcy, and I find myself making my drinks much, much lighter towards the end of an evening of tying one on. Combine it with more plain water and antioxidants later and it's even nicer. Avoid sugar, carbonation. Which I suppose kind of rules out juices, but if you go light on them it's easier on the head, kidneys and liver.

My next experiment is to try carbon-filtering the cheapass grain alcohol a few times using the brita pitcher method, but pure grain alcohol by nature is usually pretty pure as far as impurities/volume are concerned.

I used to do that all the time after I saw it on some blog. Can't say I noticed much of a difference and I would agree with your conclusion. Plus there was a mythbusters episode on it and they came up with the same results. Also, once you put vodka through one of those filters that's all you can use it for. And those things are expensive.

You can buy activated charcoal in huge containers on the cheap at aquarium supply places. I wonder if you could make your own filters.

The Charcoal Brita — now there's a useful kitchen item.
Think of the quad. The quadruple filtered vodka.

I do like Zubrowka. But I make it myself. It's the sweet grass flavoured vodka. Sweet grass can be purchased at First Nations Stores. A few straws of grass. Reseal. Place in freezer. Best way to drink vodka. Shots. Iced.

Sorry to hear about your hangover CitrusFreak. Gatorade — a quick thirst quencher.

Off-topic: You can use activated charcoal to get the stink out of your fridge, apparently it works better than baking soda.

The upscale Marie Callendars by LACMA had something they called a black orchid :vodka, blue curac,ao (sorry, don't remember the ASCII number) and enough cranberry juice to turn it purple.

Pips, I like most flavored vodkas--liqueurs have become too cloying for me... *misses Stoli Kafya*

One other thing--I order mixed drinks on the rocks, as far as I'm concerned human beings were not meant to drink out of funnels.

you can just call it blue cock. I picked up that jargon some years ago.
