01 February 2007

It's the first day of February and we are in Amsterdam (rather than our usual Santiago, Chile), and a few days ago we found out my wife is pregnant! (our first)
It's a lovely winter day, the sun is shining and there are ducks fishing and racing in the canal outside the house we are renting.
Does life get any better?
Congratulations!!

Awesome. Congratulations, signal!

Hey, nice work, signal. Congrats.

Thanks! We'd just started trying, joked about getting pregnant over here, didn't actually think it'd happen.
(on a less trascendantal (but just as self-congratulatory) note: I also bagged me a self-linker today.)

Congratulations, signal. What's doing in Amsterdam, & how long are you there for?

Congratulations signal that's wonderful.

I am happy for you, although I do not know you. But yeah, a wanted baby on the way, being in Amsterdam on a sunny Winter day, it sounds pretty nice.

Although I'd take Santiago also. . .never been to either place!

We're here for a month. I'm doing a research-exchange thing with the Alfa Aurora program, doing some research on the spatial layout of the Jordaan neighborhood. My wife is a film critic and is covering the Rotterdam Film Festival. Spending a month in Amsterdam, at this fairly awesome (and expensive! (exactly the same amount as the grant money)) apartment in the old town.
Loving the city so far, truly stunning, every time I go somewhere I haven't been before my jaw just drops. Love the people, too. Plus it's winter, so not so many godsdamned tourists!
All in all an auspicious beginning for a new life.

YAY! Congratulations! We're going to start "working" on our first this spring. Can't wait!

props to you and mrs. signal, signal! Also, my recommendation: Take photos, blog, journal or otherwise record this day for those days when the baby's sick or work is rough - it'll take you right back to the joy.

well done and congrats to you both!

A new bun on the way! Yay!

Thanks, y'all!
lonefrontranger:yep, we're taking a lot of pictures. Plus, the fact that it happened while traveling means we'll always associate Amsterdam with this time. Memories stick harder when you're someplace special, in my experience.

Oh, on the travel-geek side, we think that the conception was in Milan, and there's a chance the baby will be called that, if he's a boy.

...giving new meaning to the phrase "a bun in the oven"

Congratulations!

Sounds very interesting. And I think you should call it Milan regardless of what flavor it is! :)

Aw! Lovely news. And I agree with chewie - great name, great story behind it, and cool for boy or girl.

Whatever you do, don't go to Paris!

Congrats to you and Mrs. Signal! And I like "Milan" -- I used to work with a very sweet guy with that name who was from ... Croatia, I think? Somewhere around there.

Congrats! Love the idea for the name. We were going to do something similar if the baby had been a girl, but Adelaide didn't really work for a boy.

Bwahahahahahahahahha! Oh, you have no idea.

actually, just ignore me - I'm old and disillusioned

Congratulations, signal! Remember, every time your wife is cranky or grouchy or needy, she has a little being growing inside her! Like in that Alien movie :)

Congratulations!
Enjoy every minute of this and the next six to eight years or so. Then they turn on you, and you'll wonder what made you decide to have kids at all.
I'm just old and disillusioned too
but really, congratulations to you both!
