Anyone ever used TaxACT? I have always used Taxcut, but→[More:]this year, it will be significantly more expensive to prepare and file my federal and state returns using it, plus, when I started, it was never associated with H & R Block, but now it is.

I have never used TurboTax, but with TaxACT, it appears that $15.95 will cover prep and efiling of both my returns.

It seems too good to be true, so I am wondering if anyone knows of any downsides to it.

I've used TaxAct in the past - maybe two or three years ago. It was good. And the BF uses it.

I usually go to the IRS website and check up on who they recommend each year depending on your income and state. Depending on those things, you may be able to find a place online that will e-file for free.

Also, check with your state to see if you can file online though their website instead of paying the extra money for some third party site to file for you. I live in Chicago and Illinois offers free online filing through their website.

Thank you. I looked into Free-file but combined, wife and I make over the maximum allowed for that program. I guess that's both the good news and bad news.

Pssst. If you are a customer of State Farm and have an account on their Web site you can file free through TurboTax. Go to personalized accounts page, and look for "Free tax filing" on the left.

I've used Taxact every year since 2003. No problems yet. They even resolved a dispute with the state of South Carolina for me in 2005. I intend to use it again this year.
