"Cute" is a biological adaptation that we mammals have perfected, which leads us to better or at least more attentive parenting than, say, moray eels, cockroaches, sea urchins or hadrasaurs.
One of the reasons that, for good or not, we are where we are today.
The problem with cute is that cute never lasts. That little white ball of fluff would, if nature had her way, grow up to become an animal whose favorite food was baby harp seals, which it is supremely adapted to sneak up on and grab in their squealing helplessness by millions of years of selection pressure in an Artic landscape that is rapidly disappearing, largely because we, who think rarely about either harp seals or polar bears, can't generally be arsed to walk to the corner store and back, preferring to drive.
Don't talk to me about cute, because cute is in the eye of the beholder. We may feed polar bear cubs as a special case on the one hand, but we're killing cute wholesale most everywhere else.
