Well, this is as good as place as any. I'd like to say I hope jonmc's timeout is short-lived. I think I see the point in it, but it seems rather harsh.
b) the sign in the 4th picture says that the place is named after "the 25th anniversary of the Revolution, founded in 1942". I can't quite make out the first word, though. The large sign in the next picture says "Glory to the workers of the North". That's all I can tell you.
Interesting that jonmc was given space. I'm not taking any position, but reading that thread it seems to me he was being decidedly contrarian, but in my opinion not trolling in any way. There's a thin line, sure, as in being contrarian frequently and consistently can be akin to trolling, but the time-out still kind of puzzles me. I don't read every word of MeCha however, and trust the wise hand of our admins.
This may not be a good place to discuss it. I only brought it up in this thread because I thought the thread would have a short shelf-life being that it is a mistake.
Thanks Daniel Charms. Assuming that the revolution is the 1917 Russian one any care to hazard a guess on the place name?
I've looked at a russian map but nothing pops out as being related. Of course I don't speak russian and the place could have been renamed since 1942 or be so small as to not appear on a Russia wide map.
