Hunters are not assholes. This guy was a friggen idiot and should have A. Killed it in one shot. B. Actually CHECKED to make sure it was dead instead of ASSUMING.
Now we just need a follow up store three weeks from now telling us about how a family adopted the duck and how it formed a strange yet special relationship with the dog and they think they're related and it rides on the dogs head everywhere it goes and all that mushy stuff.
Okay, here's what don't get: I'm not a hunter or anything, but if I thought I killed something and then it turned out I didn't, I think I would finish the job instead of taking it to a vet.
Ah, but Doohickie, by then the wife got involved, and her sympathies arose, and I'm sure she took the duck for treatment. And the hunter probably feels stupid, anyway. I have nothing against hunters (hey, he was going to eat it, he didn't shoot it for fun), but I don't understand when they describe a magnificent animal, and in the next breath announce they hope to "get" it the next time they're out hunting. "Oh, what a gorgeous buck I saw! Like something from the cover of "Field and Stream". Man, I hope I get him in my sights next time!" Translate: Beautiful creature, let's kill it.
