Vanessa Williams looks awful. And what's up with Cameron Diaz's dress? In this thread we dish about the Golden Globes.
Sara Ramirez is lovely, but she really could do without the ruching around her waistline. If she wants to de-emphasize her waist, she should just go for a straight-up princess waist. But I think she's beautiful and should flaunt her figure! Either way, she should lose that ruching.

Also: what was Cameron thinking?

I don't know who Sienna Miller is, but her hairdo is sooooo cute. She looks like a lovely young Swedish milkmaid lass!

Anyone think Kyra Sedgwick was a little surprised to win?
posted by sisterhavana 15 January | 20:26
Jessica Biel handing to Emily Blunt - that was a lot of booty right there.

Lots of photos.

Helen Miren is exquisite. And I love the Sheryl Crowe's dress. The color is my favorite!

oh! gosh. I am a sucker for award shows. but I am not watching right now, but taping for later. I got ice cream. Award shows go nicely with ice cream.

I agree. Helen is absolutely beautiful tonight. The color is fabulous on her, the necklace isn't too shabby either. Sheryl is stunning as usual. She is so incredibly fit and has that healthy glow.

I was rooting for Kyra Sedgwick to win, although I've never seen The Closer. I've seen her in other roles, and I always admired her acting. I was glad to see Bill Nighy win also. I loved The Girl in the Cafe, but I haven't seen Gideon's Daughter.

I turned the TV off a little while ago, time to tune in.

i haven't seen any good clothes yet (wasn't really watching), but Rinko Kikuchi's looks cute in the pictures.

my notes so far:
- Kyra Sedgewick's acknowledgement of Kevin Bacon, "my one and only, my only one" or words to that effect, love love love!
- Renee Z looked good too in her green dress, but why does she squint up her eyes and purse her lips like that? She looks like she's constipated or something
- not crazy about Selma Heyak's drapey dress, and she has such a fantastic figure
- Reese Witherspoon looks gorgeous, but I can't see what her dress looks like bc she's always sitting when the camera lands on her
- Cameron Diaz - awful awful make-up, and the dress is blah (too tutu-esque)
- my favourite dress (so far) has got to be Emily Blunt's, LOVE the beaded detail around the neckline and the rest of it is very Herve Leger-esque

Inarritu.

I like his movies very much but now I like them even more. Why isn't there another man on the show tonight?
posted by carmina 15 January | 21:48
What is wrong with Renee's face? i'm not a big hater like some but why is she so puckery all the time?
Felicity Huffman looks nice.
posted by ethylene 15 January | 21:57
I am browsing iconomy's link above.

Renee does not look puckery, she looks squinty.

Felicity Huffman I like a lot, but why does she have to go for the glam style? A more subtle would suit her better. But then again I am not a star and with this attitude I'll never be one.

What in the hell is Warren Beatty rambling on about?
posted by LoriFLA 15 January | 22:17
I just finished browsing iconomy's link too.

Angelina Jolie's dress is underwhelming - I was expecting something more given all the hype about it being designed exclusively for her by St. John (which, admittedly, isn't a brand I'm familiar with)

Mary Louise Parker looks beautiful - her skin, the makeup, hair.

And is it just me, or does Beyonce's liquid gold confection look kinda tacky?

I'm such a sucker, but the end of Warren Beatty's acceptance speech, thanking Annette Benning for their life together and making him feel always like the most promising newcomer, so sweet!
posted by phoenixc 15 January | 22:22
I still say that eventually they're going to have awards show for awards shows. And Joan Fucking Rivers and her mutant simpleton daughter will still be loitering outside and reporting their findings to the TV Guide channel.

Rumor is she's been unhappy with the designs they've been turning out for her...

Some thoughts:

*I'm sick of Beyonce's look. Totally over it. She's always... too done. Or something. Like, what's with the mirror-like chest? Could we relax on the glitter/shine for one night?
*I have always thought Maggie Gyllenhaal is tragic looking. Feel free to disagree.
*I really like Sara Ramirez's dress.
*Didn't Heidi Klum give birth about 5 minutes ago? She looks great.
*Some might disagree, but I think all of Angelina's tattoos clash with the formal wear. Don't care for it.
*Renee does need to cut back on the plastics, before her face completely implodes. Eeeeee.

i can't find Angelina, but i've never been a fan of St. John. It's always underwhelming.

carmina, puckering is puckery. She can be squinty and puckery, it's not an either or thing.

i suppose i'm just not really into it, and i think everyone in gold is quite unflattering there.
posted by ethylene 15 January | 22:48
Ya gotta go several pages before you see Angelina. It helps to set up the page settings to "Brief" and to show 100 pics per page.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 15 January | 22:51
I must confess that I have a girl-crush on Kate Walsh. She's beautiful.
posted by phoenixc 15 January | 22:58
Actually that's pretty nice for St. John. They're generally so understated as to be bland.
i just find them all mostly boring but i admit to not really paying attention.
This is cute:

Ramirez drss is nice, America Ferrera's dress is nice but nothing's very different.
posted by ethylene 15 January | 23:02
*The Office was robbed. That show is perfection
*Angelina looks like she's trying not to draw attention to herself. I don't like that. I want the old crazy Angie back. I want her to give Brad a hickie on the red carpet then show off the vial of his sperm she had affixed to a barrette and is wearing in her pubes. That's Angie style!
*Would someone please point out to all the tucked, plumped and ironed actresses out there that Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep and Annette Benning dominated this year because they look like human women and have faces that can still express emotion.
(I'm looking at you, Squinty McPuckerson!)

It's over! Who wants a cookie?
posted by ethylene 15 January | 23:05
Me please!
posted by phoenixc 15 January | 23:05
They are chocolately good.
Milk?

Oh, yeah, and someone needs to take Vanessa Williams aside and take that thing off her head.
posted by ethylene 15 January | 23:06
Hehe...I was just going to ask for a glass! :)
posted by phoenixc 15 January | 23:07
It's just one giant cookie so tear off hunks, it's soft.

Julia Louis Dreyfus just looked silly.
posted by ethylene 15 January | 23:12
Milk? Oh, yes please.

Meryl is radiant isn't she? I can only hope to look half as good as Helen Miren at that age.

I didn't watch the end. Who won for best comedy? The Office didn't win? Jim always has a part in my fantasies. ;)

jrossi, you crack me up.
posted by LoriFLA 15 January | 23:13
i think it was Ahnold for those crutches.

Any site should tell you.

(Excuse me, just stopped another possible kitchen interloper--)

Oh, I meant for best comedy series. :) I will look it up.
posted by LoriFLA 15 January | 23:25
Eh, crap.

Anyhoo, does Meryl has some upper arm issue? She seems to dress based on disguising her upper arms. And i can respect that.

Pardon. i have to go seal the cookies in some kind of unbreachable force field again.
posted by ethylene 15 January | 23:27
Milk goes well with whiskey. Hold off the cookies. And I am not done yet. They are showing TV comedy series in my TV set.

I am tired of Salma Hayek.

I do not know who ugly betty is but is she a happy betty tonight...
posted by carmina 15 January | 23:32
America Ferrera I believe. She gave such a gracious and sweet speech. I don't watch Ugly Betty, but I loved her in Real Women Have Curves. Great movie.
posted by LoriFLA 15 January | 23:40
Oh, I know who America Ferrera is! She was in Real Women have curves which was a great movie. Oh, I am glad she won.
posted by carmina 15 January | 23:43
yes, LoriFLA, I just heard her speech. She is great. Yes!
posted by carmina 15 January | 23:44
okay, now I am done. Inarrrrritu. It was very nice of you for inviting us sisterhavana. See you for the Oscars.

The scale's tipped: I am going to watch Borat. I loved his speech.

Okay, I am off, g'night giuuurlfriendz. I'll turn off the light and make sure to close the door...

*tip toes slowly out, doesn't want to wake ethylene's pet roden*
posted by carmina 16 January | 00:38
Just before you switch off the light, I wanted to tell pieisexactlythree that Sienna Miller is/was Jude Law’s wife, if I’m not mistaken.
And I love America Ferrera too.
Too bad I wasn’t in the mood to watch this years globes; I Would’ve liked to have seen Borat’s speech.
posted by hadjiboy 16 January | 01:45
I was just thinking: jonmc could really do without that ruching around his waistline.
posted by ikkyu2 16 January | 02:34
Wow, the guys all look so boring. black. suit. white. shirt. yawn.
Helen Mirren is a fantastic actress, and quite elegant, as is Cate Blanchett. mmm.

ruching? wha'dat?
posted by Zack_Replica 16 January | 03:03
I'm just browsing the photos in ico's link now... and was just going to say: Cate Blanchett! I love her so much. So much. Yay, Zack!

Y'all don't like Angelina's dress? I think it's really beautiful. But Sienna Miller's seems just too much for her... I mean it's like DRESS, with some insignificant person inside. And that wedding train... wtf? But maybe it came off better than it appears to me.
posted by taz 16 January | 03:28
Ruching is when little bits of the fabric is gathered up to make it look "puckery" (... now, where have I heard that word before?). Can you see this image link below? There's horizontal ruching from breast to hip on this dress.
