New Mega star wedding.
OMG! I love Aishwarya Rai, she is the beautifulist of the beautiful!!

I don't see it. She has very nice features but she's very bland.

What I find so great about Bollywood (beyond the amazing music) is the unbelievably sexy women. The movies are not explicit and there is very little skin on display so the women use movement, dance, eyes and mouth to sell sex. So very hot.

i've seen better pictures and interviews and she is very attractive but i've seem even more compelling indian women who weren't movie stars.

i've been wanting to ask about names of bollywood movies to rent, or any movies with dancing and music in general, but specifically bollywood, of which i know almost nothing.

eth, I would make recommendations but I am no expert. All I know are the things I see on the multicultural cable channels and the fact that I am impressed by the ability to sell the sizzle and not the meat. Also, second your comment on "compelling indian women who weren't movie stars".

Can anyone make some recommendations?

I mean on films, not compelling indian women. :)

They make her look like Angelina Jolie...

Not exactly particularly Bollywood, but I'd recommend "Monsoon Wedding". Wonderful music, good story, lovely characters.

Sizzle is good, too, even campy, if it's done well. Hopefully people will mull it over: Bollywood or movies with singing and dancing, entertaining and/or make you wanna get up and move.

oh mi god. it would be insane in india right now. media frenzy like nothing else.

I'm just assuming that you, Eth, have already seen Lagaan (which is the epitome of a great Bollywood film)...
posted by Specklet 15 January | 01:51
YEs. I reckon Lagaan is the only one with perhaps equal quantities of meat and sizzle, but on the other hand, much of the plot depends on you knowing the intricacies of cricket... (/anti-bollywood)

"the plot depends on you knowing the intricacies of cricket"

FORGET IT! :)
posted by arse_hat 15 January | 02:05
heh. I once thought i could get my ex to understand the rules of cricket thru this movie, but it was simpler to just watch some odd match and answer questions.
posted by dhruva 15 January | 02:09
Actually, i haven't but because i've never been in the mood for it when the opportunity arose.
I'd be fine with campy sizzle, be it bolly or not. But non campy sizzle would be even better.

Get that? Sizzle, bolly or not!
And now bathing and a long unconsciousness.

The two most entertaining Bollywood movies I’ve seen recentishly were Main Hoon Na and Salaam Namaste.

People who know about Bollywood!! :) etc.
I have a question for you all. Is Shilpa Shetty as big a name in Bollywood as she's currently stating on Big Brother? She says that fame-wise, she's Bollywood equivalant to Angelina Jolie. Is this true?

I liked Lagaan a lot, even without any cricket knowledge to speak of. However, it sometimes devolves into a very Western sports film. As for Aishwarya Rai, she has such charisma onscreen that just doesn't come through in pictures.
