I'm going to be on 20/20 tomorrow night (the link is to a video preview of the piece). Hopefully, I will not come off like a complete fool.→[More:]It's a piece about Anthony Godby Johnson, and they spoke to me because I had a friendship with "Tony" years ago. Obviously, luckily, getting scammed didn't stop me from making friends with people I've never met in person (mechazens!). Anyway, I thought y'all might be interested in the subject matter (especially those of you MeFites who remember the saga of Kaycee Nicole). I don't want to put my real name on this site, but I think I'm the only woman they interviewed alone (I'm not in the video I linked to, but I've been told that I am not on the cutting room floor), so you'll be able to figure it out.

Cool beans, I'll be lookin' for ya. Back in college I was friends with Pete Guagenti, the guy who sold Amy Fisher the gun she used to shoot Mary Jo Buttafucco. Never got an interview out of it. Although we had mutual friend who kept an M-16 in his closet. Coincidence? I dunno.

I've had a few evenings on 20/20 - the morning after is distinctly unpleasant.

I'll watch it if it's online somewhere, but there's not much hope of seeing it on TV in the UK.

I've never heard of him either. The part where he talks in the video, he sounds unnatural, like he's reading from a script. I can't wait to hear this whole story.

i swear i've seen this bit on Maupin before, but that bit with the guy having his goody button pushed is just too euphemistic to be a working euphemism.

eth, they did a piece on it over the summer (from which they will probably borrow for the show tomorrow), but this one is more about the identity of the boy in the photos.

The Kaycee Nicole thing was one of the things that got me hooked on MetaFilter.

This reminds of another probable hoax. This kid went by Zander. I don't think it got to be very well known in blogland, but Google Zanderkind and stuff still pops up. Short story: kid with a bad family life, bad health, etc. Blogger who's a nurse unmasks him by the health stuff he was posting. She said it couldn't happen the way he said it was. My limited involvement with him consisted of some emailing back and forth and mailing him a card.

This is why I just laugh at dying children that I encounter online and send them hateful emails. Just to be safe.

Someone should capture it and upload it since a lot of folks probably will not be seeing it. Including me, since I'll forget about it within an hour of posting this.

When I read the book, it struck me as somewhat fishy that Tony's adoptive father came from Stamps, Arkansas, but there was no mention of Maya Angelou--whose grandmother's store was the de facto community center for the black residents.
