10 January 2007

I just watched the first episode of Little Mosque on the Prairie, and I have to say that yes, it had that indefinable, vaguely irritating quality that every CBC series from King of Kensington to Corner Gas has had, but I laughed out loud several times. Also, I love Zarqa Nawaz for writing it and the CBC for running it.
For an idea of why, check out the 'airport' and 'security' video clips. (Sorry, couldn't figure out how to link directly to that page, so you'll have to clicky there.)

What indefinable, vaguely irritating quality did North of 60 have? I swear, it ranks in my top ten of Best Television Evah.

I can't define it, fff. Sorry. But North of 60 had a bit less of it than other CBC shows. The comedies are the worst for it, IMHO.

Agh. I meant to ask at the beginning--did anyone else catch it? What did you think?

Corner Gas isn't CBC. That vaguely irritating quality is Canadian tv in general. But when I saw the teaser ads about town, I did actually say "this show has the stench of CBC all over it."

I think the quality you refer to is earnestness.

But you know, I think that's actually part of the charm. I wouldn't want to be from anywhere else.

It's in my PVR, I'll probably get around to it next week. I'm hoping it's good, the more alternative (by which I mean non-christian) religions tv watchers get exposed to the better (assuming the Muslims on the show aren't terrorists).
