This is the thread where I voice my opinion, because I'm opinionated (just like any other Internet user) and I want my opinion to be heard, God dammit!
Ask me anything and I'll tell you what I think about it.

I can almost hear the dust settling on this thread.

How do you feel about threads where poster asks people to ask them a question, whereby poster responds to said question with an opinion?
posted by Hellbient 04 January | 15:36
Oh, fuck damn. So many great questions, so little time...

Muddgirl: pink pickup trucks are for girly men.

hellbient: It all depends on the question. In some cases, this is practically unavoidable. If the person stating their opinion is not even trying to actually answer the question, then they suck.

occhiblu: I did that today. So it's a "yes".

I'm finding it difficult to keep up with you, so I'll experiment with doing several questions at a time:

danostuporstar: Why is pork differentiated from ham but chicken is just white/dark meat? Is racism to blame?

Racism is not to be blamed here. It's just the different eating/cooking habits at work here. You cannot cook a chicken in as many ways as you can cook a pig, right? Someone else might have more words for chicken.

agropyron: What's the best way to bring peace to the Middle East?

Mandatory pot-smoking. It might not be a lasting peace, but it sure will be good.

youngergirl44: Hedgehogs

They're just like me.

pork = any cut of meat from pig
ham = meat of pig's thigh, cured in brine

Chicken: Why is white meat white and dark meat dark?
posted by Miko 04 January | 15:47
getoffmylawn: Do you prefer mayo or miracle whip?

Mayo.

No, that's ok. I'm the only one who has to opinionate here. I think everyone else should be free to post as much information in this thread as they want to.

re: hedgehogs - you are spiky, huffy, have a cute nose, love mealworms and chewing on straws in the middle of the night?

jonmc: pecans are wrong - they sound like something you'd urinate in
muddgirl: femme-y
danostuporstar: who knows, but it is the other white meat. Go figure
agropyron: in a can (although frozen ones are better, they'd defrost before you got there)
occhiblu: no, unless breakfast was the size of one of Specket's tiny animals
getoffmylawn: mayo. Mircacle whip sounds like something disillusioned might be into

Thanks for the info, Miko, and the opinion, Daniel. Sound input all around.

How can you never have eaten a pecan? That is a travesty. If you email me your address, I will make you my mother's delecatable pecan puff cookies (a holiday favorite) and send you some.

Also, what do you think about people who, instead of going to their opthomolgist at the appointed date, simply get new glasses with their same old prescription?

should I make people listen to me by
a) arguing repeatedly
b) waiting till they figure it out on their own
or c) punching them in the head?

Also, I am changing my appearance, preferably beyond recognition:
a) skirts, pants or dresses?
b) dye hair pink?
or c) cut head off?

thank you.

You too, TheDonF.

Specklet: How can you never have eaten a pecan?

They appear to be an American thing; the closest place to me where they are grown appears to be Africa.

what do you think about people who, instead of going to their opthomolgist at the appointed date, simply get new glasses with their same old prescription?

They're afraid of finding out that their eyesight has gone worse.

Borderline-scholarly anthologies about pop-culture topics: threat, nuisance or menace? And are books like this the literary equivalent to those 'A String Quartet Plays Metallica' albums?

c) doesn't work (tried it). a) and b) will both only work when these people are smart enough*. Of these two, b) needs less effort on your part.

Also, I am changing my appearance, preferably beyond recognition:
a) skirts, pants or dresses?
b) dye hair pink?
or c) cut head off?

Definitely c), preferrably in combination with a). Then not even your mother will recognize you.

Should I go to the gym today? I have been exercising too much this week, but that's mainly because I haven't been exercising nearly enough in past weeks, and I have a free pass at a fancy gym this week, so I feel like I should go... but my arms and legs are sore and I am tired, and I did already do yoga this morning. I'm at an impasse.

specklet: those people rock. They're the same as the people who, when they get endless "it's time for an eye test, please come in" letters, write "not at this address, return to sender" on the envelope :)
initapplette: yep. Eggs can make a tasty omelette, pancakes for dessert
carmina q1: a, rising to c which will eventually lead to b
carmina q2: c That way, if it doesn't work, you'll be none the wiser
danostuporstar: er, this isn't my thread. DC will answer that...

TheDonF: Where can one buy canned or frozen peace?
Frozen: usually next to the green beans and broccoli florets.
Canned: near the sweetcorn, carrots and mushrooms (who the hell buys tinned carrots and/or mushrooms, anyway?)

You mean books like 'Deconstructing Disney'? I think they serve the purpose of demonstrating that all those scholarly theories can actually be applied to "real-life" things as well. On the downside, they turn out to be not as applicable as the people using them might think. So I would just say that they're a nuisance.

I also think your analogy is a good one.

Ha! I did end up going to the gym (sorry, Daniel), but I specifically skipped the pilates class I was going to take because I just couldn't deal with such a thing today.

You are all insane, and I would love you all just the same even if you were all three-legged ducks with antlers (which is what one of my online personalities just happened to be). I prefer not to stand on cilantro (OMG!), but other than that, it's all good.
